It surprised him, almost, how fast he’d fallen back into the routine he had held in the Hive during the months he’d lived there before. It felt like Damian had never left, despite being three years older and holding fresh memories of time spent in his own world. And so here he was, sipping from a latte mug at his favorite cafe in all of the Hive, Titus snoozing at his feet as if nothing had changed. It seemed to Damian that the same people were passing by, paying him no attention as they went on their ways. Indeed, Damian all but ignored them in return, favoring the book in his hand to people watching. And yet.
Green eyes lifted themselves from the pages as a flash of something caught the boy wonder’s gaze. A hat, its blue and red pattern utterly familiar. It made Damian half-rise in his chair, craning his neck to get a better look at the unruly black hair and glasses he could have sworn he’d seen. As if picking up on his owner’s sudden attention, Titus also lifted his head, ears pricking forward and tail thumping gently as his nose seemed to pick up on something. Sparing a glance to the dog, Damian pursed his lips before promptly standing and darting after his target, Titus hot on his heels, the latte and book laying abandoned on the table.
❝ Kent. ❞ Fingers curled themselves tightly around the other boy’s wrist as Damian pulled him back, ignoring Titus as he pushed his cold nose into the boy’s hand. ❝ What are you doing here? ❞
