My dad pretty much lives in his big leather recliner these days, so when I told my mom that I had brought some leather cleaner and conditioner and was “going to do dad’s chair,” she scoffed at me and wished me luck.

He took up a managerial position on the adjacent couch with Princess, and I took the cushions off the chair and went over the entire surface of it with the leather care product.  By the time I had the back face of the chair done and one whole arm rest, Mom had switched to making approving noises.  When I pointed out that what I was using had no smell at all, Dad said he’d noticed that, and I could tell that both parents were quite pleased.  

What I couldn’t understand was what they thought was a bad idea about doing this in the first place.
