Jourdan Dunn at Hermes Fall 2009
If you’re just looking to London, New York, Paris, and Milan for your fashion fix, allow AOAT to add Nigeria to your addiction. Meet, Tokyo James. A Nigerian-British menswear designer who is boldly making his mark on the fashion scene.
The designer debuted his AW17 collection called ‘End Times’ at Lexus South African Menswear Week and has been on our designer-to-watch list ever since. His designs were bold and luxurious with leather suits, emerald embellishments, crocodile skin bags and hardy helmets to suit.
In an interview with Elle Magazine South Africa, Tokyo James was clear that his collection was politically inspired by the political mayhem swirling Trump, Brexit and the rise in populism. This is signified by the hard leather dominant in the collection while the emerald hints to ‘new beginnings and change.’ Tokyo James is the newest designer to deliver a collection that focuses on the power of individuality for the modern man.
