Being Middle Eastern adds an atrocious familiarity to watching news of a terrible explosion, a regular part of evening news most of us grew up with. It is twice as heartbreaking that the world sees the same footage by a dehumanizing distortion of the colonizers responsible for the instability of the region. The Lebanese protests are a pure call for human decency and hope. The superhuman courage and strength of our Lebanese neighbors deserve every bit of help we can afford to give them.
