masky is a gentleman. that’s the best way to put it. he understands the desire for privacy, and thus would never invade yours without asking first. even if you did give him the okay, he’d still knock just in case. hoodie is the same way. he enjoys peace and quiet. i don’t imagine him liking the thought of anyone barging into his room, so why would he barge into yours? kate wouldn’t want to startle you. she remembers how she’d have constant panic attacks after hearing the slightest noise, back before slenderman abducted her. the last thing she’d want to do is give you that same feeling. jack doesn’t really care about anyone, but he cares about you. that said, he would never barge into your room, despite how he’d want nothing more than to skip the politeness and be near you. jane cares about you too much to disturb your peace. she wants you to be treated like royalty at all times. polite knocks are always expected from her.

slenderman doesn’t ask for permission. doesn’t need to. you and your privacy already belong to him. expect a quiet entrance that immediately commands your attention. toby just loves you too much and can’t bear the thought of being apart from you, even if it was just for a second (a second where he could’ve knocked). jeff is just… jeff. no explanation needed. he’s a confident prick who loves to be all up in your business. nosey as hell, too! he just loves attention. ben does what he pleases. he doesn’t bend to anyone’s rules or expectations — not even yours. unless you say please. then maybe he might let up. other than that, expect nothing. clockwork is a force to be reckoned with. she doesn’t conform to common etiquette. but she still respects you, so she’ll open the door and quip something like “you decent?” before coming in. nina wants to be just like jeff. she is, but worse. she gives him a run for his money when it comes to barging in. when she wants your attention, she’ll take it — even if it means disturbing your peace.

author’s note: i loved writing this!! it was so fun!! ^_^

the smell of homemade breakfast wafted through the air of the small cottage. bacon sizzled in the toaster oven, eggs fried on the stovetop, coffee brewed in the coffee pot. it was the familiar aroma of a lazy saturday morning.

in the living room, your daughter was laying on the soft rug, contentedly coloring away. her tongue stuck out as she focused on perfecting her masterpiece. she was so focused, in fact, that she hadn’t realized her father had returned home.

it was only the sound of his voice saying, “love, i’m home!” that pulled the young girl out of her trance.

she looked up curiously, only to be met with a large, warm hand ruffling her perfectly braided hair.

“hi, button. how’s the drawing going?” tim asked, carrying a bag full of groceries in his other hand.

the button in question giggled in delight. “going good, papa.” she lifted up the unfinished drawing to show him. “look! look! isn’t it pretty?”

the drawing consisted of three figures: you, tim, and your little button in the middle. a big, red heart was drawn around all of you.

tim’s heart swelled with affection.

he smiled fondly and smoothed down the girl’s hair. “better than picasso.”

she smiled proudly at the compliment. it was a compliment, right? she was better than this ‘picasso’ guy, whoever he was.

suddenly, your tender voice carried from the kitchen, “honey, can you come help me please?”

“sure, love. be right there.” was the response.

your little girl could listen to that familiar exchange all day. honey and love. her beloved parents.

“keep at it,” tim said, making his way towards the kitchen. “i wanna hang it on the fridge, okay?”

“okay!”

for a while, only the sound of her parents talking to one another was heard. a soft “here you go” here, a gentle “thank you” there. it was a memorable rhythm.

the girl was in the middle of making the final touches until —

“timothy wright!”

her crayon snapped.

your voice sounded… giggly, sweet. happy. as if you had just been tickled.

now, your button had heard a lot of names that her parents would call each other. obviously, there was honey and love, but those were their name-names! she had heard sweetheart, sugar, mouse, angel face, baby, sweet bottom… but never this!

your little girl was determined to find out.

your daughter was currently nudging your arm, insisting that you acknowledge her. you, on the other hand, were reading a book, glasses perched on the bridge of your nose.

finally, after the nth ‘hi’, you turned your head to glance down at your button, who stood patiently beside the nightstand.

“yes, button? what’s wrong?” your voice was exasperated in a fond, parental way.

“have a question.”

she took it upon herself to perch herself on your lap, just like a spoiled kitten would. well, there goes tonight’s reading.

“about what?”

the little girl rested her head against your chest, nuzzling into your warmth. yup. just like a kitten.

“who’s tim…tim-othy…” she tried to properly pronounce his name. “…timothy wright?”

you blinked, flabbergasted.

“why, that’s your papa, button.” you chuckled, your lips curling into a smile.

your daughter huffed. “no, it isn’t. my papa is honey! and you’re love!” her lips were pouted in childish frustration.

surely, this wasn’t the answer to the mystery.

(“who said my name?” came tim’s voice from the bathroom.

“nobody, honey. keep brushing your teeth.” you responded, half-minded, before returning your focus to your child.)

she only huffed once again. “see? papa is honey! not timothy wright!”

you laughed warmly. “button, that’s papa’s real name. honey is just a little nickname i gave him, that’s all.” you pinched her cheek. “just like how your nickname is button.”

wait, button was just a nickname? great. now she was having an identity crisis at the ripe age of three years old.

They keep giving scratches or pets, taking any opportunity that they can to sit next to sonar so they can lean their head on him, burying their head into his neck sometimes almost nearly falling asleep, rubbing, and fidget their hand absent mindedly through any hair like his arms or whatever. Or perhaps just cuteness aggression nuzzling against the fur like you would with a stuffed animal.

First, stillness: the tranquil, sweet oblivion of sleep.

Then…

Throb, throb

That smile-dropping, heart-heavy, dreading ache in your lower abdomen; it’s not enough to cause complete agony, but it’s enough to cause you to wake from your slumber.

With a few groans of pain and displeasure, you roll out of bed and shuffle sluggishly to bathroom.

Of course, you started your period.

You groan loudly once more, but not out of pain — you’ve already taken a few pain killers — but out of frustration. Did your cycle seriously have to ruin your blissful sleep? Not to mention it was the holiday season… How tough was your luck?

A warm shower will calm you down, and ease the painful tension in your abdomen.

Irritably, you begin to prep everything that you need for the soothing shower that awaits. You snatch grab a towel from the cabinet, along with some aromatherapy shower steamers, and feminine products of your choosing before hopping into the shower.

Naturally, all of the ruckus woke up Flambae from his slumber.

Were you rummaging through the fridge for a late night snack again? Maybe you were turning on the heater?

As he shuffled out of his room, he found the bathroom light on. Light streamed into the dark hallway from beneath the door. Was that… the scent of peppermint? Were you showering? The sound of water running answered his question.

Chad knocked on the door, which nearly made you jump out of your skin (you didn’t think he’d be awake at this hour!), and called to you from the other side of the door.

“Hey, bitch. Everything okay in there? You woke me up with all your commotion.”

You were sat on the shower floor, curled up into a ball as you allowed the warm water to fall onto your body.

“I’m fine,” you replied, “Just started my period, that’s all.”

“Boo.” You heard from the other side of the door. “Do you need anything? Some ice water? Pain pills?”

A nice, cold glass of water sounded good, but the warmth from the shower kept you stationary.

Reluctantly, you replied, “No, I’m alright for now.”

Chad shrugged, then let out a yawn. “Okay then. I’m going back to bed. Wake me up if you need anything, bitch.”

You needed something.

After you crawled out of the shower, you headed to your room to go back to bed and, hopefully, catch some Z’s. You laid down, all bundled up in your blankets, and tried to find a comfortable position to sleep in.

You might as well have been a fish out of water, because you were tossing and turning like a madman on your bed.

Everything was irritating you: the room was too stuffy, the blankets were too warm, and neither sides of your pillow was cold. Most of all, your cramps were killing you.

So now, here you were, standing at the edge of Chad’s bed like a child who had just woken up from a nightmare and wanted to sleep with their parent.

He snored — loudly.

You took a deep breath, put your big-boy pants on, and gingerly shook Chad’s shoulder.

“Chad.” you whispered.

No answer.

“Chad.”

Again, no answer. His snores seemed to grow even more boisterous.

You huffed, and shook his shoulder roughly this time. “Chad!” you hissed.

Finally, he stirred awake, albeit with a loud gasp that was more suited for a Vietnam veteran than a spoiled, egotistical fire hero. “Huh? What’s happening? What do you want?”

“My cramps are killing me.”

“Okay… And what am I supposed to do about that?”

You stood there and made a face that said ‘Are you serious right now?’

He blinked slowly. Then, “Oh. Here.” He reached over to his nightstand and handed you a box of pain pills.

Now it was your turn to blink.

“Not what I was referring to…” You tossed the box back onto the nightstand. “Hello? I need you to be my personal heating pad! Now, move over.”

Without giving him a moment to react, you slid into bed beside him and curled up close to him — much akin to a domestic feline. His warmth was the perfect temperature for you. Not too hot, but not underwhelmingly warm either.

You sighed, content, and closed your eyes.

“You’re so needy… There,” He draped his arm on top of your aching stomach. The warmth that omitted from him immediately soothed your muscles. “Happy now?”

You nodded with a small smile, and wrapped your own arm around him.

“Very.”

• slender isn’t used to the affection. when you first show even a smidge of fondness to him, he remains calm, but on the inside he’s lowkey beginning to question everything.

• gradually, you’ll advance your efforts. a nudge here, a caress there. slender tolerates it. he doesn’t hate it. he just doesn’t know how to feel about it (given that he’s literally a demon and is not familiar with the concept of love).

• you become bold one day and decide to straight up hold his hand. naturally, yours is dwarfed by his. he finds satisfaction in that simple fact. your touch is warm, tender — completely opposite to his in comparison. the contrast of warm skin against cold intrigues him. he finds that he likes the sensation, and he wants more.

• you meet the eldritch demon on a day like any other. perhaps you like to take walks in the forest. you follow the endless trail with the same calmness that a doe might have. then, you see it — a trick of the light, a movement of something behind you. you figure that it’s a squirrel or a bird, so you go about your walk. but you can’t shake the feeling that something, or rather someone, is watching you.

• after the sun sets on the horizon, you return home. by the time you lay down on your soft, frilly bed, it’s nearing midnight. the crickets are chirping, the moonlight shines in through the sheer curtains. then, you see it again — that same trick of the light. you don’t think much of it. maybe it was an owl? maybe a moth? the darkness makes it hard to tell what exactly is outside of your window.

• another flick, flick further piques your wonder. you crawl out of bed, curious, and slowly open the curtains only to see… him. tall, terrifying him.

• it was your sweetness that charmed him. the soft way you would talk to songbirds, the way you would look about his forest, appreciating its natural, horrific beauty. you were as sweet as pie.

• he watches you while you sleep. watches your every move, actually — but you don’t mind. not when he makes you feel so safe and protected. any stress or depression you might’ve had would be no more. his presence — so grounding and constant — puts your entire body at ease.

• at first, he keeps his distance, preferring to watch you at arms length. eventually, with enough begging (he’s a sucker for your puppy dog eyes), he grows ever-so closer to your proximity.

• he will allow you to touch him and lead him around like he’s a dog on a leash. you’re the only one who’s allowed to touch him without getting annihilated.

• his tendrils will often brush a strand of hair away from your face or brush off a leaf from your hair whenever you two walk in the forest together. when you’re really sweet, he’ll even caress your cheek.

• he enjoys seeing you smile. when he finds out that flowers especially make you smile, he creates an entire section of the forest purely made up of flowers. a meadow for you to frolic and smile in.

• although he does not speak much, he will mutter small “i see”s to let you know that he’s listening whenever you’re rambling to him. the last thing he wants is for you to think that he’s ignoring you. as if he could ignore someone as sweet as you.
