What's up, lil' bro?
Friday night, April, sunset and warm weather. Sodapop Curtis was sitting in the living room, taking a sip of Cola. The Greasers were all the Curtis house for "weekend chill time", as they called it. Johhny was talking with Dally in the kitchen, Steve was sitting next to Soda. Darry was in the kitchen, trying to warm up a frozen pizza in the oven. Two-Bit was sitting in front of the TV, watching Looney Tunes with Steve and Soda and eating a piece of chocolate cake. They were all finally getting some rest after a hard week, having fun togheter and enjoying eachother's company. That's when Pony came from his bedroom, he looked gloomy, blue...he went straight to the fridge, saying hi to everyone with a nod. He opened the fridge...and then they all turned around when they heard him:
"Wait...where's the last piece of chocolate cake? I...I remembered there was some..."
Steve and Soda's eyes turned immediately to Two-Bit's plate...oh no.
"Oh...you wanted that? Sorry buddy...I took It... there's a little left, we can share it."
The Mickey Mouse loving boy said, holding up the plate with a guilty smile. Pony put on a sour face and stomped to the hallway. Two-Bit chuckled and got up.
"Bubuhuddy...c'mon-"
"THIS IS WHY YOU'RE FAT!"
Pony screamed from the other side. The house turned so quiet you could hear a pin drop. They were all staring at the door from where Pony had left.
"He didn't..." Johnny mumbled, eyes wide.
"Oh he did.." Dally mumbled, amused by the chaos that was about to unleash.
Two-Bit immediately put the plastic plate down and ran after young boy. They could hear Pony trying to fight him off, Two-Bit laughing and then the sound fourteen year old boy whining:
"TWO-BIT MATTHEWS, LEMME GO!"
"NO WAY IN HELL, KIDDO!!!"
Two-Bit took him back to the living room and held him down in a headlock on the carpet.
"Tap out! Tap out!" He teased, holding him.
"Never, you bully!!!" Pony managed to say, trying to fight him off.
Darry looked at the two, shaking his head at their sheneningans. Johnny tried to break the two apart.
"Guys, c'mon..."
Steve looked at Pony with a poker face.
"I'm almost feelin' sorry for him...wait, ha! No I don't!"
Soda chuckled at Steve's joke. In the end, Two-Bit finally let the teenage boy go. The older boy tried to pull Pony in a friendly hug.
"Hey, truce? I know you didn't mean it, buddy..."
But the fourteen year old boy just pushed him off.
"Get off me, you idiot!"
Pony looked sadder now...almost angry. He stormed back to his room, slamming the door this time. The Greasers were surprised and...kinda shocked: Pony never acted that way twoards any of them like that. Two-Bit turned to Soda and Darry.
"The hell happened to him?"
Darry shrugged.
"I don't know! He's been actin' like this since he came back from school."
"Perhaps maybe something happened back there that upset him"
Johnny said. Soda sighed, he knew Pony better than anyone, this behaviour definitely had a reason. He got up from the couch and walked to their room.
"Don't worry, I'll go talk to him" Soda said, while walking through the hallway.
Soda slowly peeked into his shared bedroom he had with Pony. He smiled to him.
"Hey buddy, what's goin' on in that big head of yours?"
Pony groaned in his pillow.
"Leave me alone, Soda."
The horse loving boy rolled his eyes, chuckling and sitting next to Pony on the bed.
"This ain't about cake, ain't It?"
Soda asked, Pony didn't respond. He carressed his...his tough hair, the one mom used to say was almost "brave".
"I know there's a reason why you roasted Two-Bit, you don't go snappin' at everyone with no good reason."
Pony didn't look up at him. He just sighed.
"I...I got a bad grade..."
Pony mumbled. Soda smiled softly, damn school, always stressin' the hell out of his little brother.
"Bad grade? That's all huh? You know It's not something you can't fix, with that smart head ya got..."
Pony just buried his face deeper in the pillow.
"But I didn't want a bad grade, I studied hard for that test..."
Soda put his arm around his little brother, cuddling him close.
"I know Ponyboy, I know...but sometimes...these mistakes teach us something, this will teach you to get up even stronger next time..."
Pony melted into his brother's warm arms, enjoying the comfort It gave him.
"Thanks Soda..."
Soda smiled, "No worries baby bro...how much did you score, if you don't mind me askin'"
Pony hesitated a bit:
"I got...ugh...six and a half outta nine"
Sodapop stared at his brother, trying to understand if he was serious or not.
"Ponyboy...you know that ain't a failing grade, right?"
The younger boy groaned.
"I know! But I wanted It to be higher!"
Soda facepalmed, breaking the cuddle.
"Good Lord...six and a half outta anything was my highest grade ever in all my years at the damn school!"
Pony, chuckling said:
"I know, but I'm not you, Soda! I wanted at least seven out of ten!"
Soda stared at him, he couldn't believe that his little brother had a sour attitude all day...for a passing grade. That's when a mischievious idea lit up in his head.
"That's It, you're gonna get it"
"Wha-?"
And before Ponyboy could realize, his older brother had him pinned down to the bed (with only one arm, mind you) and was staring down at him with a wicked smile. The fourteen year old boy tried to squirm away, giggling nervously.
"Sohohoda...c'mohon wehe...whehe cahan tahalk aBOUT- THIHIHIS!! NOHOHOHO!!! OHOHO JEHEHESUS"
The older boy had just started to scribble hard on his sides, making him laugh hard. Pony was kicking up and down, trying to get Sodapop off him, but that brought nothing.
"Aww what's wrong Ponyboy? Something feels tickle-tickle-ticklish~???"
"SOHOHODA NOHOHO!!! NOHOHO TEHEHEASES!!!"
Soda continued to scribble down his sides, the tickles making him screach and giggle hard.
"There's my baby bro~ My smart, lovely, giggly baby bro~"
The teases were making it even worse for Ponyboy, they made his stomach fuzzy and full of butterflies. Pony's face was flushed and his eyes were watery.
"STAHAHAHAP IHIHI'M GOHOHOHOIN' TOHOHO DIHIHIE"
Soda chuckled at his brothers dramatic act.
"Nah you won't, you've never died when me and Darry tickled you, you always ended up in giggles, that was all."
That was when Soda moved down to poke at Pony's tummy. That caused an immediate reaction.
"SOHOHOHODAHAHA!!!"
"Geez, still your worst spot, huh?"
As Pony trashed around, laughing like crazy, Soda couldn't help but smile at how adorable his baby brother was. He had always been the most ticklish out of the bunch, he remembered that clearly. During their childhood, before their parents...passed away, Soda and Darry tickled Pony all the time. When he was sad, when he was happy, when he was scared...they couldn't help to see him happy, he was so damn cute.
That's when Soda lifted up his brother's shirt a little, to reveal his tummy. Pony's eyes widened.
"You know what's comin', Pony"
"SOHOHODA DOHON'T YOHOHOU DAHARE!!!"
But by the time Pony had stopped, It was too late. Soda took a deep breath and blew a big fat raspberry onto his tummy:
"PRBBTTTTT~"
"NAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! SOHOHOHOHODAHAHA!!! IHIHIHI CAHAHANT"
Soda continued his attack on Pony's tummy, as the younger boy continued to laugh uncontrollably. When Pony started to wheeze, that was Soda's call to stop. Soda stopped his playful attack and started to rub away the ghost tingles away, as Pony started to catch his breath again. Soda smiled.
"Feelin' better, lil' bro?"
Pony chuckled through breaths:
"Yehehes...Ihi aham...thahanks Sohoda..."
Soda smiled and hugged Ponyboy tight again, ruffling his hair.
"You never told me 'stop' by the way."
"Shuhut It."
Maybe they weren't perfect, but they were family...and they loved eachother, even when someone was angry at a passing grade.
