Tickletober Prompt 1: Mischief
(Prompt list done by @august-anon !
————————————————————————
A young witch was practicing her spells in her grove in the forest. It was quiet, perfect for her work. Her frosting hair flowed down her back like a sweet waterfall, and her robes hugged her body like a glove.
Her frosting hair was a result of her treatment. She was terminally ill, and she found a way to curb it. A potion made with a special vanilla extract, which kept her worst symptoms in check. The frosting hair was a side effect, but not an unwelcome one. As she drew circles in her enchanted scrolls, she felt a presence within her secluded grove.
She wasn’t alone here.
Her shadow seemed to be a little different, and she felt several eyes staring at her from among the trees. She even felt her shadow morph and twist, taking shape into a certain beast behind her.
That little devil was not subtle.
“Shadow Milk Cookie, if you want my attention, you could just come up to me like Pure Vanilla does.”
“Oh, come on! I was just starting to have fun!”
The shadow shifted into a much smaller, cuter form. The form of a blue Cookie. He floated above the witch, rolling the eyes on his face, and in his hair.
“Don’t you witches ever take a joke?” He smirked at the witch, and she smirked right back.
“Does spying on me while I work count as a joke?”
“Well, maybe I’m just trying to keep an eye or two on you! You might be acting nice to us Cookies right now, but you can’t deceive the Master of Deceit! You’re tricking everyone else, but you can’t trick me!~”
The witch’s smile faded. That was what Shadow Milk Cookie believed? That she was lying to Cookies now so she could eat them later? She knew that the jester knew the truth about why witches first baked Cookies; to be eaten for their Life Powder. She could never do that to someone living, and she proved that by making a sanctuary for Cookies in and around her manor, for any passing Cookies from Earthbread.
Ultimately, it cost her everything, as she was cast out from her coven.
But Shadow Milk Cookie? He didn’t believe this act for one second. He was the Master of Deceit, after all. No one could trick him, only he could trick others! Despite his long road of redemption, he was still a mischievous little devil, playing tricks on other Cookies, performing satirical plays, and telling the occasional lie.
However, when he heard of a sanctuary for Cookies outside of Earthbread, made by a witch no less, he could sense a lie when he heard one. Upon arrival, everything seemed normal, but he still didn’t buy it. Witches made Cookies to be eaten, nothing else. A witch who was kind to Cookies was the fattest lie he had ever heard.
The witch thought for a moment, wondering what she could do to prove to him she was not lying. She could make a truth serum to ensure she couldn’t lie to him? No, he still wouldn’t buy that. He might think she’d switch out the serum with something else. A big gesture for him? No, he’d think she was just buying his favor to betray him…
Then it hit her. Something Pure Vanilla Cookie told her about in one of his visits. He spent a lot of time with Shadow Milk, and knew a lot about him. And something he mentioned the other day gave her an idea.
“Shadow Milk, you’re sure that I would build a sanctuary for Cookies just to eat them?” She asked, hiding her smirk. “You think I would be that cruel?”
“Witches are as cruel as I once was! No amount of sanctuaries, or “kind” gestures will convince me that you won’t turn on them and consume them, just as those other witches did!” Shadow Milk barked at her.
The witch was silent for a moment, but she nodded.
“You know, I am a little hungry. But not for Cookies, Shadow Milk. I have a much… sweeter craving.” She chuckled. Shadow Milk was confused.
“Sweeter? What’s sweeter than the Cookies you watch over?” Shadow Milk questioned.
Before Shadow Milk could react, he felt his powers grow weaker. The witch had cast a quick spell to suppress his powers temporarily, making him easier to handle. He couldn’t even fly anymore, so he started to fall. For a Cookie, it was quite the drop. But the witch gently caught him before he hit the grassy ground.
“There we go~ much better, isn’t it?” The witch smirked at him, yet still showed kindness. She used her fingers of the hand holding the Cookie to move his limbs out of the way.
“What are you doing?!” The jester screeched. “Release me this instant, you vile wench!”
“Oh, of course I will. Only until it sinks into your dough that I’m no evil witch. I’m a peaceful witch, who cares about the lives of Cookies like you.”
The witch smirked wider, and Shadow Milk glared at her.
“A witch like you being nice to Cookies? That amount of Deceit could destroy all of Earthbread!”
The witch chuckled, but not like a screeching witch cackle. More like a warm, friendly chuckle.
“Very well, little jester. I’ll prove it. Would a Cookie-eating witch do… this?”
She brought her large hand to Shadow Milk’s side, gently rubbing it with two fingers. The action caused a squeak from the Cookie, and he tried to stifle his reactions.
“W-what are you-? Hey!” He cried as he attempted to stay quiet.
“Proving that I’m not mean. The only thing I crave is the laughter of Cookies now. And yours is quite sweet.”
Shadow Milk’s face turned a darker blue blush when he heard that. Now that she was teasing him, his facade cracked, making way for more squeaks and adorable giggles.
“Let me go!” Shadow Milk commanded, still refusing to give up.
“I’m afraid I can’t. At least not until you believe me.”
The witch smiled gently at the jester’s chortles. They were far more adorable than his conspiring laughs. She then moved her fingers to the diamond patch on his belly, and she scratched a single nail there.
“Aw, how cute.” The witch cooed. “You left a little window open for me.”
Shadow Milk didn’t think about that possibility when he wore his jester outfit.
“No! Release me!” He begged, squealing with laughter. The witch merely chuckled.
“Are you going to admit I’m not evil?” She asked, and Shadow Milk shook his head.
“No! Never!” He screeched.
“Very well, you leave me no choice, little jester. If you won’t accept my kindness…”
She bent down, her peach lips making contact with his tummy. Though his dough tasted sweet, the last thing she wanted to do was eat him for real. She was just playing with him. A little white lie, if you would. She gently nuzzled and kissed at the open window on his belly. Shadow Milk threw his head back with loud, shrieking cackles, that could rival the witches when they cackled cruelly.
The witch lifted her head after a few minutes, smirking as her nose still nuzzled the blue belly before her, keeping him in squeaky giggles.
“Am I a nice witch, Shadow Milk?” She asked gently. The jester frantically nodded his head.
“Yes, you’re nice! You wouldn’t eat a Cookie if you were starving in a cave! Please, let me go!”
The witch laughed at his panic, and she stopped. She released the Cookie, and she snapped her fingers, allowing for his powers to return to him. He flew up to her eye level, and he spent time catching his breath.
“Oh, crumbs… you sure know how to prove a point.” Shadow Milk heaved.
“Indeed I do, Shadow Milk. I’m glad you believe my kindness now. Unless you’re deceiving me.” She joked. Shadow Milk snickered.
“Not this time. But I may or may not pull a few tricks from time to time.”
The witch nodded. “I’d expect nothing less from the Cookie of Deceit.”
He took notice of her hair, and he was silent for one moment, before he broke it.
“Your hair… it’s-“
“Frosting?” The witch finished. “I know. It’s a side effect of the potion I drink for my illness. It keeps my worst symptoms in check.” She said gently. Shadow Milk was surprised.
“You’re really something, witch.” He commented. She chuckled.
“Yes, but… you don’t need to call me a witch. You can call me Carrie.” She assured him.
