It might seem strange that a director from Taiwan borrows a typically Western topos like imprisonment as the only way to cast out pride and its inveterate demons. Anyway, Lee Hsing picture shows a certain consistency in terms of dramaturgical principles, even though I would have liked it to have less focus on childhood psychological damages.
