I absolutely hated C group’s vocal training session; they weren’t taking Shin Yoonmi seriously just because she’s a woman. All they kept saying was that she’s pretty. Seong Hyunwoo didn’t even take her criticism seriously. As for Bae Jinyoung, well, she was helping and encouraging him but he still stopped singing. She even kept clapping just in case he wanted to try again, but all that the C group trainees could say was that she’s scary. Maybe it’s just MNet’s horrible editing, but it just doesn’t seem fair that Lee Sukhoon was treated with so much more respect.

Jungsu practiced shooting today. He placed 1st by shooting 19/20 on target
Jungsu: I heard about Muyeol-ssi for the first time through Donghae. And when I saw him for the first time, I said ‘Hello. I am Second Rank officer Park Jung Su!’ but he didn’t reply and kept reading the script (for the musical The Promise). I thought all actors were like this, and felt very hurt. Later, when we were in the car, he quietly asked how old I was. I replied ’30′. He said ‘We’re starting to work together now. Let’s help each other in hard times.’ I almost cried listening to him.
Muyeol: “Park Jungsu first rank officer really cries easily. Actually, when we heard Park Jungsu first rank officer was coming, we planned a prank. We decided to pretend to ignore him on his first day. But when he first came to the musical practice, his face was all red, and he came looking like a puppy. He introduced himself and went to rest in the corner. We couldn’t approach him and talk to him since we were in midst of ‘pranking him’.
Jungsu: I joined the musical practice with 40 degrees fever… and after losing 5 KG..
Muyeol: So I went later to give him my jacket.
Jungsu said he doesn’t have a favorite girl group right now because he likes all of them.
SeokHoon: When we played basketball, Park Jungsu, first rank officer, got very excited and talked a lot.

The show was also increased to 100 minutes per episode, making place for another two extra singers to be added to the show. As the show will be changing its format from six to eight singers in one episode, they confirmed a whole string of artists to be joining the show in the coming weeks. Not only Huh Gak and Davichi's Minkyung will be following the other contestants' footsteps, as Infinite's Woohyun, Hong Kyungmin, Lim Jeonghee, Lee Sukhoon, Ali and Shin Yongjae have also been confirmed as additional contestants. Immortal Song Ep. 8 Thoughts
I hadn't written up my thoughts on the last few eps of Immortal Song, but someone on Omona mentioned that they were waiting for my comment (which made me so pleased!) so I ended up writing this review instead of studying. Woot!
Lee Sukhoon - I really loved the instrumentation of this one, so kudos to whoever composed it and to the musicians who played the piano and violin. I feel like Sukhoon always tends to make all those faces while he sings and it's difficult to not cross over the line into being just plain humorous. However, I did really love the long belt-y notes, though I thought the last one was one too many. The first part was a bit slow and I thought he cut his notes off too quickly sometimes, but it got better once it picked up. Hwanhee - I have to confess - I've always liked Brian's voice better than Hwanhee's in Fly to the Sky. Hwanhee also tends to overstylize and have an excess of vibrato. This performance was a bit too slow for my tastes - it almost felt draggy. Even though Hwanhee had all of these higher notes and these vocal runs, I felt like it never went anywhere. I will say, though, there was this one moment where Hwanhee was taking a pause in his singing and you could see emotion in his eyes - that was lovely. Overall, though, I don't think it was the best song choice. Kim Taewoo - Taewoo is always so fun to watch on stage and I've always loved his voice. It was interesting how he had a "money note" so early in the piece. It was apparent that Taewoo really put an effort into creating an atmosphere for this song (In terms of the idol contestants, I would say Taewoo is analogous to Changmin in that sense). Taewoo's performance, though, was great not because of his singing but because he put together a whole package. I don't know if it would've been that amazing with just the vocals, but it was the extra effort and addition of the interactions with the audience, the costumes, the dancing that made this better. K. Will - I was hoping for less ballads overall and so after seeing Taewoo's departure from the ballads, I think it made me even more disappointed that K. Will was singing a ballad. His falsetto is fantastic, of course. But K. Will also makes those faces when he sings (as all male ballad singers seem to do...) and it just makes me uncomfortable for him. The climax was really great, but I was worried the whole entire time because it sounded just so painful to be expelling that out of his diaphragm. Vocally, I thought this was great (although for a little bit, I thought he was a little flat, but that might just be me) but as an audience member, not as much of a performance. Im Taekyung - I confess that I'm not familiar with Im Taekyung at all, but a quick Google search tells me that he's a crossover tenor. And you can tell as soon as he starts singing; his voice is lovely. Personal taste, but I prefer voices like Im Taekyung's to husky voices that often sound like overwrought crying to me. I really loved that one moment where he did that rock-y thing where the instrumentals take a pause and he like throws his voice (Blech, I don't even know how to describe it) but I loved it because it's something that you definitely wouldn't do in opera or other trained singing of that sort. I thought this was great at demonstrating what he's best at but still showing that he took on a challenge. Expression-wise, though, Im Taekyung was on the other side of the spectrum in that sometimes you could tell he was thinking about performing. Even so, this performance was definitely my favorite so far. Lee Jung - Whoaz! Lee Jung has no hair! Haha. Maybe I hadn't been paying attention before, but I happened to look and Lee Jung himself was one of the arrangers listed for this song! And he played the guitar for it - man, he's talented, isn't he? This was a lovely performance. It was a bit of a risk - the song and its arrangement is more on the side of understated and quiet than in-your-face. But although it was simple, Lee Jung had the skill to pull it off and just capture your attention. I will say that although I thought the one piece of showing-off-his-voice was well-placed, I did feel like the going-up of the second time was unnecessary and it would've been better if he had just gone up once (if that makes any sense). Wheesung - I quite like Wheesung in general, although occasionally I find his singing style to be a bit...affected? But I appreciated how from the get-go, you could tell that you were going to get a taste of Wheesung's style (I mean, he did work on the arrangement, so that makes sense, haha) and I liked how he clearly put effort into the wardrobe and the dancing. Yet even though I could tell Wheesung was putting a lot of energy into this performance, for me, it didn't translate through to me getting excited. I felt like there were too many vocal tricks and not enough singing. His big note at the end was great, though. Lee Hyuk - Dayum, Lee Hyuk has a great voice. I loved how versatile it was - at the beginning, it sounded like such a trained, classically-styled voice and then of course, he just was amazing at singing in a rock style. This was one of those performances where you just sit there, gaping at how that kind of sound can be made with the human voice. It is incredibly incredibly difficult to sing like that and yet Lee Hyuk did it and was consistently solid throughout. I'm curious as to how the voting ended up because it seemed to me that the audience was even older than usual and I don't know how acceptable to their palate this kind of singing would be. Overall, all of these singers are incredible and all of these performances were great. I'm excited for the female special!
