Per the Rockefeller Center website, this one is merely called Sound & is to the left of Lee Lawrie’s better known ‘Wisdom’ outside the front entrance. Completed in #1934. #ArtDeco #LeeLawrie #rockefellercenter some folks say the character is talking onto a record. My theory is that they are telling the Hollywood Bowl a secret.

A review about a little-known Art Deco master sculptor, in the Spring 2018 issue of Chicago At Deco Society’s magazine. Reviewed by Kathleen Murhpy Skolnik: Art History professor at Roosevelt University, Architectural Historian and esteemed author. Lawrie went on to create the Atlas and another dozen or so works at Rockefeller Center—after spending around 15 years creating the sculpture for Nebraska’s New Capitol.

This gentleman who lives in Paris peruses his copy at the Old San Francisco Bookstore, there. The review is in the latest issue of the Chicago Art Deci Society’s magazine. Reviewed by Kathleen Skolnik, professor of art history at Chicago’s Roosevelt University, architectural historian and author. Lawrie created the Atlas at Rockefeller Center, the Art Deco sculpture at the Los Angeles Public Library. Lawrie spent roughly 14 years creating the Prairie Deco sculpture—the largest commission of his 70+ year career.
