i think the issue with First link is that people do not want to actually engage with his story and character, and as a result they think he has no story to tell...it's sad because I think there's plenty of interesting narrative points and dialogue that shows us the kind of person that First link is

the truth is that he is a very skeptical and cynical person. he constantly questions the gods, and he is fully aware that he is a pawn that is being tossed around in a game of chess (hylia even mentions that his imprisonment was planned by the gods as a way to test his will)

which makes it ironic because he is also a man of faith and hope. he shares a deep love for the land and people. despite all the greed and corruption, he still sees a lot of good in the world.

it's why first link is so willing to embrace his destiny as a hero despite knowing that he's playing into the hands of fate. it's not a burden to him because his faith has and will always be with Hyrule...he has always been fighting against oppression, even before the war against demise. humans and gods may be using him, but he still ultimately feels like the choice to fight is his.

and yet, he also longs to be free from the shackles of fate and destiny. his desires constantly contradict each other, especially as a hero, and i think that makes him a very compelling character.

ive seen people call him an "edgy version" of SS link, but that's just simply untrue, especially since First link is a very hopeful person despite his own skepticism towards the nature of people and gods

there's also something to be said about how he dehumanizes himself as a tool of war and how he is so eager to self-sacrifice himself but that is a whole other can of worms

#i think there are rightful criticisms of the story btw as someone who is a diehard First link fan #the manga straight up contradicts lore in game (but I think a lot of the manga can easily be fixed and changed)#but it's also wrong to think the manga doesn't offer something interesting and fun #the author clearly had a lot of ideas that couldn't be explored due to the manga being only a few pages long #also im seeing people offer criticisms when they couldn't even be bothered to read the manga which is... lol.#it's only 32 pages guys #anyway im looking forward to seeing how jojo further expands his character in LU!#loz #first link #lu first #leelee rambles
