“A Homeworld ship?” Topaz exclaimed. “Do you...” she lowered her voice to match Cyel’s volume, “Do you think we should go say hi?”
“...No,” Cyel replied, “we don’t know who is inside, we can’t get risk getting caught again.”
“But… what if they’re friendly?”
“What if they’re not?” Tourmaline replied almost immediately. “We aren’t from Homeworld anymore, we are basically their enemies!”
The orange gem smiled, “Enemies are just friends you haven’t made yet!” she cupped Cyel’s face and gave her a quick peck. “I’ll be careful, I promise.”
Before Tourmaline could reply, Topaz had already jumped over the rock, skipping her way towards the wrecked ship.
The door opened, and a gem crawled out before it weakly closed again. Cyel’s eyes opened in shock when she realized who it was.
“Fine!” Sphalerite yelled towards the pod, pinching the bride of her nose. “Just stay there until I say it’s safe, alright? I’ll check first-”
Topaz interrupted her as she walked towards her with a big smile. “Heeey there! Welcome to Earth! My name is Topaz, it’s really nice to meet you!” she grabbed her hand, shaking it vigorously.
Sphalerite seemed taken aback and took a quick glance at the pod, “Who- Wait, Topaz?”
“That’s me! And who are you?”
“The name’s Sphalerite,” Fire replied and gave the ship a small kick. “I’m here looking for another gem.”
“Huh...” Topaz murmured and took a step closer to the other orange gem. She squinted, now barely inches from the other’s face. “You don’t look like the Sphalerite I know. They’re way pinker than you!”
Sphalerite took a step back and gave a harder kick at the ship, “I- uh,” she cleared her throat, “Look, I don’t have time to chat, have you seen a Watermelon Tourmaline? I came to find her.”
“Cyel?” Topaz gasped. “Oh my gosh, are you that Sphalerite? She’s told me about you, yeah! Let me go get-”
Suddenly, the door on the escape pod cracked open. “What was that for? You haven’t stated if it’s safe to come out yet-”
A slim, light orange gem stood up, her eyes seemingly fixated on the figure in front of her.
“Oh, you brought a friend?” Topaz smiled. “Hello, I’m Topaz! Welcome to-”
“M-My luminescence!” the Pearl finally seemed to react and bowed, stumbling with her legs still inside the ship.
“Y… Your what-?” Topaz stared back at the Pearl, perplexed.
“Finding her was faster than I thought,” Fire murmured. “But you said you know Cyel? Where is she?”
“I’ve been waiting for you for so long, my bright luminescence! I saw this Sphalerite was coming here as well and decided to look for you!” she stepped out of the ship and bowed again.
From the position Cyel was currently standing in, she could barely see Fire and Topaz. Even if she knew Fire and could even bring herself to trust her sometimes, it was incredibly odd for her to be here and especially to have landed in… such a way.
It was just when she saw another unknown gem pop out of the wrecked ship that she decided to get out from her hiding spot and go see what the situation was about.
Sphalerite being here didn’t matter. After having to confront Azotic barely a few weeks ago, she wasn’t about to let Topaz get even near danger; and danger as of right now meant Homeworld, acquaintances or not.
“What’s going on?” Cyel spoke up. Her gaze went directly at the Pearl, who seemed to be too excited bowing repeatedly at Topaz to notice her presence. Topaz, on the other hand, seemed reluctant to her praise, trying to make her stop with a sheepish smile.
Sphalerite squinted at Cyel in silence trying to process what was going on. After a few moments in silence, her eyes opened wide with realization.
“Cyel?!” she walked towards her, a smile slowly forming on her lips. “You’re really alive!”
“Huh?” she lifted her gaze from the Pearl and looked back at Fire, raising an eyebrow, “of course I am! Why wouldn’t I be?”
“...You’ve been missing for two years!” Fire exclaimed, shocked.
“...Oh, right,” Cyel nodded, and looked back at Topaz. She had just been thinking about that a bit ago, hadn’t she? But she never truly expected anyone to be looking for her; as expendables as Tourmalines were back in Homeworld, she knew she would be simply marked as Missing in Action and be left at that. Then why had Sphalerite kept track of her absence?
“I can’t believe I finally found you!” the Pearl chirped happily, after bowing for the tenth time.
“I- Yeah, it’s...nice to see you too?” Topaz replied and rubbed the back of her neck. “Who… are you, exactly?”
“RIGHT!” the Pearl grabbed one of Topaz’ hands and bowed down again, kissing it softly. “My name is Orange Pearl. I was created to work for you over 5,000 years ago,” she let her hand go and straightened up. “I knew it had all been a misunderstanding, no matter what others said!”
“What others…?” Topaz trailed off, recalling Azotic’s return. She hadn’t thought much about it in years before she came to confront her, but she had told the others they had been attacked, right?
Sphalerite didn’t seem to pay attention to the orange gems’ conversation. Instead, she glanced at the ship and then back at Tourmaline.
“Anyways, now that you’re here...” Fire spoke up, trying to get Cyel’s attention again.
“Now that I finally found you...” Orange Pearl announced, practically bouncing on her spot as she admired Topaz.
“We’re going back to Homeworld!” both said in unison.
