Sleepy Hollow: The Weeping Lady
Another one of Katrina's secrets came back to bite everyone, and it just might have been one secret too many. Ichabod was spending time with his friend from colonial reenactments, Caroline. She gave him some shirts before making her intentions known. Ichabod was quick to inform her he was married, so when Abbie walked in seconds later, Caroline jumped to a conclusion and called her Mrs. Crane. Ichabod muddled his explanation as Caroline rushed out, but Abbie was all too happy to laugh at his predicament. Ichabod's wife, Katrina, was busy working around Henry and Abraham, to get a message to Ichabod, one she sent off with a crow. Abraham informed Henry of his suspicions about Katrina, and Henry went to work, finding a secret to use against her.
Ichabod, still upset about the events earlier, had Abbie drive him to Caroline's home to apologize in person. She was pleased that he took the time to come see her, and wanted to remain friends as well, so he left will plans to see each other at the next reenactment. But when Caroline went back inside, she heard crying, and followed the sound to a back room that seemed to be filled with water, in which a weeping woman in black sat. The second she saw Caroline, the woman came at her, screeching. The next morning, Ichabod ran towards the river, as the police were removing Caroline's body. Abbie confirmed the horrible news, and told him that she had died shortly after they left her the night before. Her car was still at home, yet there were no tracks to show where she might have entered the water. It didn't take long for Ichabod to find a scene, Caroline's mug in the sand and tire tracks, showing someone sped away. Knowing the area is a lover's lane, Abbie went to the local high school and after questioning the spirit squad, found the two teens who had been by the river the night before. They believed they had seen the weeping lady, a local legend. Abbie and Ichabod headed to the library, to search for old stories of the weeping lady. As Ichabod searched, the crow tapped on the window, and gave him the note from Katrina, reaffirming her love for him. Abbie ran into Nick during her search. He was learning to believe, and researching the apocalypse and supernatural goings on. He promised to help the next time they needed, and as he walked away, Abbie spotted the weeping lady, in a section of the library that looked like it was underwater. Abbie asked her to slowly turn around, but she came at her as Abbie fired a shot. Abbie was suddenly under water, struggling to release herself from the lady's grip. Ichabod found a puddle on the floor that was more like a portal to the river. He reached in, attempting to grab Abbie, but when he finally was able to pull her out, he thought it was too late. As he shouted her name, Nick rushed over and performed CPR until Abbie came to (considering the peril they are constantly in, Ichabod really needs to learn CPR). After being checked out by the paramedics, Abbie was ready to get right back to the fight. Ichabod had found an old story about the weeping lady, a sorrowful woman who lost her love and drowned herself. Abbie knew the woman she had seen was more angry than sorrowful, but had managed to grab a piece of the woman shawl. Ichabod recognized the fabric, having belonged to his betrothed many years ago, Mary Wells. He remembered the last day he saw her. He was with Katrina when she arrived, having come from England to bring him home. They walked alone together, and discussed him joining the colonists. She wanted him to return, so they may marry, but Ichabod wanted out. He had broken off their engagement because he did not love in that way, but she believed it was all Katrina's fault, even though Katrina was engaged to Abraham. She insisted he pack to leave, and would be waiting for him the next morning. But the next morning, he received a letter stating that she would be returning home alone and apologizing for her behavior. Abbie was quick to suggest that maybe she never really left and was the woman they were searching for, the spirit haunting the town. The spirit had never attacked until now, meaning something had changed, but it also meant any woman close to Ichabod was in danger, especially the one who did steal him away, Katrina. At that moment, Ichabod realized he had lost the note she sent him, probably when trying to rescue Abbie, so Mary now knew about his wife.
Worried about Katrina's safety, Ichabod wanted to rush to Katrina, but Abbie insisted they make a stop at Nick's. Nick thought that saving Abbie's life made them even, but when Ichabod explained the situation, he agreed he might be able to help. He offered them a weapon that could work, which they took and left for Headless's cabin. They didn't know how to get in with him around him, but then he rushed out on his horse. Knowing his haste meant Katrina had probably been attacked, they ran inside, only to find the letter in a black puddle. Abbie told Ichabod she had seen the bridge above the river when she was attacked, so they might still have a chance to save Katrina. Katrina had used her powers to free herself from Mary's grasp and made it to land when Ichabod and Abbie found her. They filled Katrina in on the spirit's true identity, and Katrina pointed out that Henry must have been the one who brought her out. Katrina could send her soul away, but needed Abbie's help. So while she and Abbie repeated the words of the spell, Ichabod tried to talk to Mary. He could finally see her face, but he wasn't reaching her, and when he used Nick's weapon it did nothing but make her angrier. She went after Katrina, but they had completed the spell, and Mary collapsed to the ground. Ichabod asked her what had happened all those years ago, and she pointed to Katrina before she was gone. He demanded to know what Katrina had done, and she confessed that after he and Mary parted ways, Mary asked her to meet by the river. Katrina tried to dispel Mary's belief about her and Ichabod, but Mary just became more jealous and furious and when she came at Katrina, she tripped and fell off the cliff. When Katrina got to her on the sand below, she was dead, having hit her head. Katrina was worried Ichabod would have insisted on returning Mary's body to England personally, with his return to the colonies unknown, and she couldn't let that happen. So with a simple spell, she forged the letter. But Katrina had lied once again, and Ichabod was furious. But they couldn't talk long, because Headless rode up. He was about to attack when Katrina told him the spirit had taken her, not Ichabod, and they left together.
Jenny stopped by Nick's place to return the weapon to him. During their conversation she alluded to a romantic past between them, but Nick dismissed her advances. She wondered if maybe there was someone, but he said with everything going on, it just didn't seem like a good idea (anyone else think he is actually interested in Abbie). With a kiss, Jenny stole his coffee and left. Ichabod and Abbie were attending a memorial for Caroline, when Ichabod made a vow that they must trust each other over all others. A saddened Katrina sat in the cabin, as Abraham promised he had not been involved with Henry's plan in any way. Henry was getting reamed by Moloch, who has his own plans for Katrina (what the hell are the Hellfire Shards). He returned to his house, and broke down sobbing (not the most intimidating Horseman, is he). Until tonight . . .
