Armbar or triangle from guard. I suck at both of these, but this is more or less how it's supposed to go.

Closed guard to back take, then a cool triangle entry. Alternatively a pendulum sweep.

After damn near a year and a half of BJJ, I finally submitted someone with a leg triangle. It was very sloppy and ugly, but the guy was stronger than me and I count it as a qualified success.

Before, I didn't really understand how to clear the opponent's arm before placing my legs around their neck, and the instructions in Neil Melanson's (excellent) book about leg triangles all start from a position of already having gotten your leg over your opponent's shoulder. [Edit: I'm looking through the book again, and this isn't even true, it presents tons of ways to do it, haha]

We went over the move again in class a couple of weeks ago, and I guess something clicked. Here's the illustration from that session:

A sweep from half guard, w/ an option to go for a triangle. I kind of crushed it this session, but then again it may just have felt like it because I drilled these techniques with a kid half my size. Sorry to that man. Boy. Whatever.

In my almost 3 years of doing bjj I've only really hit three triangles (a fourth one was too shitty to count), but two of them were this week 😎
