It's been a while I know but how could I not return to the world of Tumblr for a post mourning the impending end of the TVDverse 💔 an end I hope will be more of a break than a true ending 🤞
I'm still in shock over Legacies cancellation but there is a part of me that is proud the 2nd spinoff in the TVDU is going out with its strongest season to date, some moral victory about the show going out on a high.
13 years ago we were all introduced to Mystic Falls and as 14 year old gay boy I was instantly obsessed with the show, having always been obsessed with the supernatural genre, and quickly found myself becoming totally obsessed with the likes of Caroline Forbes and Katherine Pierce. Over those years "TVD" continued to introduce more characters for me to love and hate, storylines to keep me hooked and "The Originals" spin off with the Mikaelson family, later "Legacies" was born. I grew up with this universe, as I'm sure most of you did, and I want to honour that 💖
Please drop comments about your favourite storylines, couples, pairings, seasons, episodes, characters, etc, over the years, lets share some TVDverse memories together as we prepare to say goodbye for now with Legacies finale three episodes soon coming our way 💖
Warning: Spoilers Ahead, if you have not watched the second episode of the third season I highly suggest not reading this post until you do.
THOUGHTS ON EPISODE ONE
“Goodbyes Sure Do Suck”
First up is the confession that I am still not over Chad’s death although I recently read an interview with EP Brett Matthews that has given me some hope I may see Chad again one day but at the same time the necromancer playing with his skull was just too soon and I must admit it kind of sunk that little ship I had between them both.
Raphael’s gone! Or at the very least he is gone for now, after underusing then misusing Raphael in Season 2, then giving him royal heritage in the premiere and now dumping his ass in the prison world it really makes me think the writers do not have a clue what they want to do with him, yet they want the character’s brother bond with Landon and his pining for Hope and although I do enjoy his bromance with Landon I’m not here for Rope (still unsure if that is the right ship name)
So, if this is Raphael’s character leaving for good then I’m chuffed but then if it’s a little hiatus then I wish that they give him enough of a break to give the writing team some real time to build up his character and get some kind of direction going for him other than popping up to linger over Hope or bro talk with Landon then popping away again.
I am thrilled Raphael’s in a prison world with his biological parents making up for lost time and truly believing that is a fitting end or at least a fitting hiatus if they do choose to bring him back later on in the season.
Now although I am somewhat happy about his ending I cannot help but admit the actual swansong for Raphael was just so abysmal for me, we just had not seen enough of him with anyone other than Landon or Hope to really give a damn about everyone else’s reactions minus Jed who really did shine for me this episode by finding Raphael’s dad (wish there were more wolf pack scenes)
Lizzie’s scene with Raphael was the first time I ever stopped and thought you know what I would not hate it, purely because anyone recognizing Lizzie’s excellence makes me happy but still more chemistry than Raphael and Hope but at the same time I was rooting for Raphael and Josie before they began pushing the Rope thing.
I know I have already talked a lot about Raphael but this whole episode centered around him so I think that it is fitting for my thoughts to also be focused around his character but there were some other moments in this episode not about him like Alyssa and the necromancer for example.
Can I just say I love the fact Alyssa a teenaged witch totally schooled the centuries old necromancer on thinking about the bigger picture? I love the pure cheesy villain vibes that the necromancer gives me in every scene and the addition of Alyssa is just genius for pure cheese! (She may have even grown on me)
Also, Alyssa’s grand plan about unleashing all the monsters is a great week to keep the monster of the week format which works for the show about 50% of the time while finally giving us Malivore which excites me more because I just want the mud man storyline over with already, also I am kind of hoping beyond hope that Clarke may make a comeback, that little devil grew on me in the second season and I am willing to admit that.
Sheriff Mac and Alaric’s scene were hot and cold for me, mainly because the character Alaric has not been a hit for me since about season six of the vampire diaries but on the plus side I like his little collaboration with the Sheriff this episode. Sheriff Mac is growing on me and I truly believe future episodes with her and Alaric could bring something more to this show and possibly even make me fall back in love with Alaric. (Emphasis on possibly)
This episode in general was a big improvement from the season three premiere although if you read my review about that particular episode then the admission that I prefer this episode is most definitely not a surprise to anyone!
NOTABLE MENTIONS
1) There’s a new prison world which could open up several possibilities like prison world jumping which gets me to thinking, Bonnie created a prison world for Enzo did she not? (Cameo please)
2) Raphael’s gone and they finally did some good by giving him a fitting ending. (Is it the end though?)
3) Alyssa’s team up with the necromancer could lead to some exciting storylines (As well as ending the mud man storyline)
4) Next week is the musical episode based around The Vampire Diaries (The trailer looks so awful it may actually be good)
5) I’ve definitely softened towards Alyssa mostly because of her cunning ways (Last week it was MG, what’s happening to me?)
Warning: Spoilers below, do not read if you are still to watch the season 3 premiere of Legacies.
“We’re Not Worthy”
Okay so I’m going to start with the acknowledgement that I know Legacies is a different tone to The Vampire Diaries, and that TVD was a different tone to The Originals, I am also going to acknowledge the fact that out of the three The Originals is by far my favorite, with TVD firmly in second place to which I am starting to believe Legacies will never manage to take said place from TVD.
For me the stronger episodes of Legacies are always going to be the darker ones, although I must admit there have been extremely cheesy moments that I’ve found to be a guilty pleasure...however, the overall softer more child friendly tone of this show has been hard to get behind but as a HUGE TVDverse fan, and fanfic writer, I’ve been pushing pass it and it sure does help that we have had several solid episodes per season, just no solid season, in my opinion.
My favorite character in Legacies has to be Lizzie Saltzman, Hope Mikaelson was hard for me to love because of the epicness of kid Hope but now I’m a strong fan of hers, and Josie Saltzman has her moments too.
Now on to the actual episode “We’re Not Worthy” thoughts...
Okay so Hope is MIA once again in another series premiere but instead of the show allowing it as a chance to further the supporting characters I found myself screaming at the television for Hope to just wake up already! (more on her waking up further down) This was an episode very much centered on Lizzie, Raphael, Josie, and Landon with some strong MG moments, and where I normally love any episodes Lizzie centric this one was a total dud for me!
Lizzie reverting to her old self is always a pleasure, especially seeing her protective sister side kick in towards Josie, Josie who just comes across completely ungrateful towards Lizzie, I know their co-dependency has a lot of issues but for me it gives me ugh feelings towards Josie and I know the word ungrateful is strong especially considering I did get Josie’s side but still, I’m glad we are going to have some Josie time out (talking about that further down too) to which I hope allows Lizzie, and her friendship with Hope, my favorite friendship Hizzie to grow, as well as allowing Josie to come back feeling lighter and being more fun as a character in general.
Raphael who is easily one of my least liked characters trying to force Landon to come back to life was some reasonably good filler, Landon’s quirkiness is often a pleasure to watch, especially alongside the over-campy guilty pleasure villain The Necromancer, a villain that could only work in the Legacies format. However, the idea of Landon in Raphael’s body was all kinds of wrong and I’m so glad they did not go down that route, I mean Hope waking up to find Landon in Raphael’s body would just be too cringe, mostly because Haphael or Rope, or whatever shippers call that one, should never happen IMO.
MG is a character who is just kind of there most episodes but then come the odd episode he really shines when given the chance and he really did in this episode, his team spirit was almost inspiring so major points for that and his cuteness.
So, in this episode we find Legacies tackling Camelot, with easily the worst CGI from the show so far, with the worst villain of the week the green knight, and the worst acting Nimue by far!
This is easily the worst take on a rather epic tale I have seen to date it just felt all kinds of rushed and far too much like a theatre play on school that a kid wrote :(
Raphael turning out to have royal blood and being the descendent of Arthur would be interesting if it were any other character like MG for example, but with Raphael’s ill advised sudden love for his best mate’s girlfriend and him being MIA for a lot of season 2 his character just feels very misplaced to me and this plot feels to me like hey he does have a purpose after all, no thanks writers!
Lizzie and MG feel to me like their going down the route of a romance now more than ever, and although I did briefly ship them in an episode in season one I just feel like too much and at the same time not enough has went on for them to just wind up together this season, I’d like to see more growth between them both, changes, and development before they wind up together, if they wind up together but for now I’m not a shipper!
Now when Hope finally does wake up after Landon is brought back to life that whole scene just feels so lackluster, now I know what your thinking one minute I’m like wake up Hope next I’m complaining about her waking up but seriously her wake up could’ve been a bigger moment and I wouldn’t have minded next week’s episode being inside Hope’s mind which I reckon would have been a whole lot less Disney than Josie’s mind, a cheesy episode I enjoyed.
I just feel Handon reunited after one died and the other woke from a coma could have been more romantic or something, I do not ship Handon but they have had some really good shippable moments that I can not deny to the point I cannot deny them having a moment that forces me to ship them, this episode not being one of them.
So, we tackled Nimue’s involvement, Hope’s coma, Lizzie and Josie, Lizzie and MG, Landon’s brief death, and Raphael’s royal lineage which means it’s time to discuss Josie leaving to spend some quality time with her mother CAROLINE (Caroline Forbes easily being one of TVDverse’s greatest characters) Now a break from Josie I think is a great time not only to further herself but others when dealing without her, although I have a feeling her brief departure will not be very long at all.
Any mention of Caroline gets me screaming “Come back, Queen, come back!” and I know Candice King keeps saying never say never so each season I await only to be broken hearted for now two seasons in a row :(
I get actors wanting to pursue other things, TVD was 8 years of that cast and crew’s life and TO was 5, so they deserve the break 1000%, I loved Freya’s return and I was never much of a fan of her character but it felt so needed for Hope and I cried at that reunion unashamedly. Which is why Caroline’s return would mean so much not just for fans of her character but for fans of the twins and finally getting to see mummy Caroline with grown daughters, on that same note bring back Rebekah Mikaelson, crazy aunt Bex would be perfect for a pop in to see her niece Hope.
Overall, this episode of Legacies easily goes into my do not rewatch unless your binging the show as a whole! It does have some great moments such as: Landon’s defiance over being revived, the overall campiness that is the necromancer and Lizzie putting Alyssa in her place, but it also has some horrible moments like Chad’s untimely death (loved him) Alyssa’s non exit, and literally everything Nimue related including the Shrek in armor villain of the week that they called the green knight.
NOTABLE MENTIONS
1) Chad’s dead, again! Only this time I feel like it’s a proper exit for the character, although hoping they bring him back. Love his scenes with the necromancer and even found myself shipping the two (Chad and Ted forever)
2) Josie’s off to see mummy Caroline, any mention of Caroline is notable. (Come back to us Caroline)
3) What the heck is going on with Lizzie’s hair? Is it a really bad wig or just styled so awful? It does not do the character or actress any justice whatsoever. (justice for Lizzie’s hair)
4) The Necromancer is clearly sticking around! Not to mention Alyssa and Raphael are still very much tied to him which we found out by Chad’s death (my heart keeps breaking)
5) MG, who is not my favorite character, is easily the character that shines the most in this particular episode. (MG on the rise?)
So the last show within the TVDverse to this 30 day challenge within one day and one post is "Legacies", as always feel free to do this yourself and tell me you opinions in the comments 💖
1 - Lizzie Saltzman, I just love how in so many ways she's Caroline's daughter but she's also her own person, I loved her mother in TVD from beginning to end and I have a theory the same will happen here with Lizzie. Bonus points: she's named after Liz Forbes, easily the best of the TVD characters parents 💖
2 - This is hard, I forever find myself up and down with alot of chracters within the show largely depending on episode...i do love the necromancer and his minion though, get super cute, super unhealthy couple vibes there and I'm totally down for that 😂
3 - Hosie, I love how both the actresses who play Hope and Josie low key ship it too and have been pushing Plec to make it happen. And if Klaroline did not happen I love the idea their children get to be endgame.
4 - Pass, I tend to not rewatch a show until I caj binge it, ie atleast 3 seasons worth...so far ive only watched the eps as they have aired...so my soundtrack knowledge is hit/miss 😂
5 - The first finale "There's always a loophole" is so far one of the few episodes that really felt like the TVDverse and that cliffhanger was everything, it got me beyond excited for season 2.
6 - The santa episode, like I get this show hits different and is for a younger audience but that was just too much 😂
7 - Hope and Lizzie, I am really enjoying their frenemies going to besties mode and they make a great team.
8 - Now with TVD and TO i could list them off like that...Legacies however, hmm...I'd have to say most of Hope's speech in the pilot episode that was really well written and im saying entire speech as I cant remember the exact line that I loved 😂
9 - Klaroline being married in one of Lizzie's genie worlds 😍
10 - Josie's Ariana inspired outfit when her and Hope are heavy flirting in one of those genie worlds, Josie's casual wadrobe tends to be the best casual looks too.
11 - I love Landon's perfectly placed curls, I have curls and not once have they been perfectly placed 😂 so theres admiration and envy thwre 😂
12 - Hope, we do not see it enough though...clearly learned how to smile from Klaus the king of smiles 💖
13 - Freya and Hope when Freya remembers her, oh that tugged at the heart strings 😪
14 - Hosie, when it happens...but none so far although the scene where Josie is literally a pig and hints for Hope to kiss her scene was brill 😂
15 - The one which ends in Lizzie hugging Hope after Hope realises the dress she was wearing was Carolines, who had been gifted it from Klaus 💖
16 - Okay so far I have not been impressed with the monsters or the cgi being used for them...however the necromancer is a strong character so Im going for him.
17 - Again hard to pick just one here...so im going to say the fake santa because that whole episode was a miss for me.
18 - Hope playing Lizzie playing Hope 😂
19 - Sebastians death, mainly because I found him so intruiging and wanted more...
20 - Josie's spell when she returns everyone's memories of Hope.
21 - Hope throwing herself into the pit in the season one finale, or her slaying the zombies in mombie dearest or anytime she gives me Buffy vibes tbh 😂
22 - I do not really see myself in any of them as of yet, though it has only been two seasons so far, but the closest I would say Id be to remotely resembling would be Lizzie.
23 - Josie admitting her crush for Hope and Hopes response 😍
24 - Hizzie, maybe in later seasons another will claim their throne but I highly doubt it.
25 - Anytime we see them delve into Lizzie's mental health, I hope they do more of this and really do this justice 💚
26 - When Hope joins them on the bed for a sisterly hug, the sisterhood between those three are so strong I just love it 💖
27 - The non squad with Landon as their leader in that cupid episode 😂 the good kind of cringe 😂😂
28 - Landon showing his Phoenix wings, cant wait to see more of what he can do 👀
29 - The necromancer as a human working in an ice cream shop 😂
30 - Lizzie, Josie, or any female character other than Hope tbh I like Hope but why is everyone tripping over her when Lizzie and Josie are just as beautiful and badass as her, like come on writers not everybody has to fancy hope...like rafael for example I much preffered his chemistry with Josie but they squashed that for another one in love with Hope...like we get it she's amazing but unless she's casting love spells right left and center lets get over this obsession with everyone needing to be in love with her while rejecting all the others 😂 ofcourse MG does love Lizzie so I'll give him points but I do not ship that sadly guys 😂 to play the devils advocate though...do not shoot me...i prefer Hopes chemistry with Clarke than Landon but Hosie for the win 😂
