My last post was dedicated to my favorite read from December so now to share my biggest disappointment from the month . . . Children of Virtue & Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi. I am a massive fan of Children of Blood & Bone. The world building and magic were fantastic, the characters and strong female friendships were amazing, and the adventure was epic! I’ve been anxiously awaiting the sequel ever since I devoured CoB&B! Unfortunately, Children of Virtue & Vengeance fell flat for me. I don’t know if was the long wait between books or something else, but I just wasn’t as connected to the characters in this book. I didn’t feel like I was there on the journey. Also literally every character was a horrible/annoying person who made terrible decisions. The story was just ok and also very fast paced and it felt like both a lot and very little actually happened in the plot (that probably doesn’t make any sense lol). CoV&V lost the spark that CoB&B created. I will say that the magic and clans are still super cool and totally fascinating. I am still interested to see where Adeyemi takes the story next. I’m totally bummed about this sequel but it doesn’t change my opinion on how epic the first book is! Have you read Children of Virtue & Vengeance?
