@idlegore . liked for a starter .
she’s never been above asking for help. not when it’s needed - and not when there are no roads around it. but that doesn’t stop her from feeling vulnerable, a sensation she loathes deep down to the core. she might’ve considered chloe a friend once, before favors turned into longstanding debts that made saying no nearly impossible. before something as simple as a shared document became accompanying the other on an endeavor she didn’t truly believe in. it isn’t that lara views herself as above it, it’s that she isn’t certain chloe’s morals are the same as her own - that she isn’t all the way convinced they’re on the same team. settled down into the passenger seat of their rental jeep, map splayed out on her knees, her bottom lip is pulled between her teeth. careful consideration as her left digit travels along their projected path, “ we should make a right at the forked road, at least according to the map. ”
that’s if the scrap of paper is truthful. lara’d like to believe that it was, that they hadn’t been duped once again by false documents and lies spread to keep the world’s secrets at bay. shifting in her seat, carefully folding the map back together, her elbow comes to rest on the middle console. “ you’re sure about this? ” it’s hardly the first time she’s questioned it, but now seems as good a time as any to do so again. to ensure that if things get hairy, as they so often did, that chloe wouldn’t leave her high and dry. because trust is fickle in this business, and despite their history, lara’s never quite comfortable with anyone but jonah at her side. “ just - tell me the story again, will you? ”
