I have taken a brief hiatus from the Focus Days since I've been preoccupied with sketching some designs for a Zelda game concept.
I'll have a few sketches of Zelda up soon, along with some explanation about the time when this conceptual game occurs, and how the landscape of Hyrule relates to that of the other, canon games.
Here is a brief description of the (admittedly convoluted and rough) general plot of the game.
In this story, Link inhabits a mountainous region in Eastern Hyrule, somewhat near Kakariko Village. He and his aunt live in Habetta Village, which is located on the northernmost habitable area of Death Mountain.
This game occurs in the period between Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, during the era where Hyrule is being relocated. (Yes, I’m planning according to this theory. Just play along please. :/ )
As the land has split and deep crags block the path of any straightforward migration of masses of people, the Hylians’ movement has been slow but steady. During their travels, the Hylian people have moved along the Eastern paths in order to remain near the friendly Zora and Gorons, and to remain near the river. At the time of this game (between 100-150 years after Ocarina of Time) Hyrule Castle Town is well into development, but many people remain in the eastern regions, waiting for the Town to be completed. After all, a city under construction is a vulnerable city. The weary and untrained soldiers and builders aren’t an adequate defense force.
The game revolves around revisiting the developing Town and various settlements in order to aid Link’s hometown. Many of the small villages are struggling as supplies are being sent to those who are building the town. The small rations supplied to the villages are dwindling. Link’s journey begins as he travels from village-to-village and ultimately the Town to gather supplies for the village-people he loves.
Meanwhile, a force is descending from the higher reaches of the mountains. I haven’t decided much about this force, but I’m playing with the idea of them being the tribe that was condemned to the Twilight Realm. Are they a surviving tribe of Sheikah, or peoples from an Ancient Village? These people are gathering to seize (or reclaim?) the power of Hyrule from the disorganized Hylians.
A young, self-proclaimed scout from Kakariko Village is the first to spot this threat.
Zelda is a descendant of Hyrule’s Royal Family, which has scattered and remained undercover so as to avoid detection and elimination. Zelda, and her uncle and mother -who are descendants of the great Impa- (Impaz had to come from SOMEWHERE. Think of her as a distant descendant of this family…) are living in Kakariko Village, which has been modified and labeled the Hidden Village. A tiny family of Sheikah and a group of Hylians live in the secluded town. The village has been rebuilt a few acres northeast, so as to claim a safe area that is naturally surrounded by mountain. Many areas of the previous development are still present and located in a guarded area at the southern-most edge of the village.
Zelda and her mother are disguised as Sheikah and serve as the matriarchs of this village. However, Zelda would prefer to pursue her own conviction to protect the city through spying, scouting, and gathering.
During one of her monthly journeys to survey the nearby villages, Zelda encounters two mysterious individuals discussing a nefarious plot to reclaim Hyrule. She rushes to tell those in Kakariko. She is ordered to remain in the village as a party leaves to warn the Town and the Hylian Villages. Not one to be tossed aside after her important discovery of this plot, Zelda embarks on her own journey to warn the Villages and Town. It is during this pursuit that she encounters Link. She decides to accompany him on his path to the settlements.
Link is a friendly, well-humored, and somewhat anxious boy, who cares compassionately (and nervously) for those he loves. He has a very strong sense of duty to his relations and allies. This chivalry and duty is bolstered by his nervous affectation and habit of impulsively acting to assuage any worries of his loved one’s safety. Link is 12 years old.
Zelda is quiet, enigmatic, and clever. She is not very talkative or vocal about her agenda. She is intrigued by Link after learning that he too carries a Triforce Mark. She plans on presenting him to her people to use after their journey to the villages ends, but together they are thrust into the plot to seize Hyrule. She warms to Link (who she previously had to protect) when he places himself in harms way to (attempt to) rescue her from a camp of Slavers. Naturally Zelda frees herself and manages the situation, but Link manages to hold his own in the ensuing battle with the Slavers, and Zelda begins to consider the young boy a respectably human ally, rather than a bothersome and dispensable little tagalong. Zelda is 16 years old.
Didn't you mention that you were going to post some Zelda designs awhile back? Did you get anywhere with those. I dont want to be pushy but I'm just really intrigued. What is your style of drawing?
Oh WOW someone was really interested? uwu oh goodness.
I do have have a few really…shakey concepts. I’d be willing to post those, but they’re not finished by any means. I’ve actually been testing various styles; I’ve been trying to come up with characters/concepts for separate games, and I’m trying to develope a unique style for each game to differentiate them. One is a bit similar to the Wind Waker style, with more of a West-cartoonish vibe. Another is very realistic. I haven’t really worked on the third much, but I’m trying to base it on children’s books illustrations.
Most of these drawings are unique and are pretty different from my “default” style. When I’m not drawing in a specific fashion, my art style and linework is really similar to annieitsnothomohomosparkles/Autum’s way of drawing.
The goal of this blog is to showcase the fan-creations of specific games, characters, and scenes from the Legend of Zelda.
I will be focusing upon a specific subject each day (for now) in order to ensure that the best fan-art from each subject may be posted. If anyone has a suggestion for a focus subject, please contact me through the ask box.
