Hi!, about that declawing post, can you file your cat's nails (or claws, is there a difference?) ?? And would it be a better solution than declawing them?I'm just curious, I don't actually have a cat, but I really like learning stuff about animals, so I hope you answer. Thanks for your time. :)

I consider claw maintenance mandatory for general cat care!  (And they are claws, even though they’re made of the same material as nails. It just has to do with the shape of how they grow). A lot of people like the idea of a cat because they “don’t have to do anything” for the upkeep of the animal, like going to a groomer, like you would for a dog. And now most breeds of cat won’t require something so extreme as a groomer visit, they still need maintenance!

Luckily a lot of cats are really sufficient in keeping themselves clean. If you have a cat that grooms itself regularly, you may be fine. I just recommend keeping an eye on their skin, brush them frequently, and you can even spot clean them with some cat-safe wipes (you can find them in any pet store or online). 

So keeping a cat’s nail’s trimmed helps with everything. It’s painless, and you can train a cat to accept the trim with minimal resistance. To the point where, when you pull out the nail trimmer, they’ll come up to you and wait, because they know there’s a treat involved.

Trimming their claws helps a cat live in harmony with their human. They still have something physically THERE to protect themselves with, to mingle their scent with other cats, but it’s not as dangerously sharp as they would have been otherwise. While my cats don’t swipe at me (mostly personality, partially training), I notice the most when one of my cats sits on my lap and starts kneading. They’re not tearing my legs up, but you can feel the tips of their claws really sink in farther than you’d really like.

I’ve trimmed all of my cat’s claws and it’s a totally normal occurrence for them now. I’ve gotten so quick at it that each cat only takes a little over a minute to do. Minimal stress. No dangerous long-term effects. Just, as with all animals, be cautious of their quick when you do it. It can be a nasty injury if you nick it.

No longer friday night, but try a caipirinha! They’re a brazilian drink that uses cachaca but I know people will occasionally use vodka. One cut lime (I cut wedges in half) 1 tablespoon of sugar, and two ounces of cachaça (or vodka)

muddle the lime and sugar, add cachaca, stir or shake with ice (I prefer it shaken)

Oh I love caipirinha! but it never tastes as good when I do it myself as in a bar unfortunately :(
