Let me tell you a little something about the King of Legottolia...
While Gen was sitting in the back yard of the king who was picking on his favorite cousin, the Baron Erondites was enriching his house at the expense of the Queen of Attolia.
Let’s call this ‘Queen of Attolia: Before”
And this can be our “King of Attolia: After”
ninety-eighty days
Patrimony razed. Earth salted. Have we learned some things?
The Queen of Attolia Meets Eugenides in the Prison Cell (ARC Contest)
“Standing in the light, surrounded by the dark beyond the reach of the lanterns, she seemed lit by the aura of the gods.” -The Thief
“Surely I am a better mistress to serve?” “You are more beautiful, Your Majesty.” The queen smiled again before I finished. “But she is more kind.” -The Thief
This is the Attolian prison area. This is the scene from The Thief where the Queen of Attolia makes her first, grand appearance in the story as she meets with Eugenides in his prison cell. As a reader, I believe this is the most memorable scene, because it foreshadows what is to come in the following novels. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity as it brings out so much creativity and nice recollections about Gen and his adventures. What a fun experience!
The King of Legottolia!
The winner is Attolia Dancing!
Congratulations to Casey Copeland and Caleb Stephens!
I love the way only Gen and Attolia are in focus. That’s some clever camera work. I’d like to think that’s Phresine in white observing, while Dite is drinking away his sorrows on the right.
Thank you all who entered the contest. Thank you all for voting. Half of all votes came in on the last day, saving me from a tie, and I really appreciate it. All of the entries were amazing and fun and incredibly inventive. I’m glad I didn’t have to pick a favorite because I couldn’t have done it.
Top: “I had slept for a day in stuffy darkness on the ridged tops of his treasure trunks”
Bottom: “I want to be king of Attolia”

CAPTION: It was so hard to come up with a caption for this because I feel like this scene is too searingly memorable for anyone to need any sort of explanation. It's that one where Attolis Eugenides gets the hell scared out of him, Attolia Irene mows down her entire court with a glace, and Poor Costis is uncomfortably loyal to two people at the same time as well as uncomfortably close to kiss between a man and his wife.

He struggled for breath as his thoughts circled like birds that couldn't find a perch, searching for a way to change the truth, to change the queen of Attolia, but her decision was final, the action irrevocable. "Eugenides"--he heard her cool voice through the agony--"have I exceeded the restraints of tradition? Have I offended the gods?" and he heard someone whisper with his voice, "No, Your Majesty."
