I never thought I'd be writing this.
Coding was never my entire life. It was just something I enjoyed on the side, a hobby that let me unwind from everything else.
But hobbies are supposed to be enjoyable.
Lately, that hasn't been the case.
It's disheartening to see someone speak so confidently about things they couldn't possibly know, and even more disheartening to watch people accept those assumptions without question. I wanted to defend myself. I wanted to explain my side. But I've realized there's no point. Once people have decided what they want to believe, no explanation is ever enough.
I'd rather spend my time elsewhere than waste it trying to prove myself to people who've already made up their minds.
I won't be coding anymore.
Not because I have to, but because this hobby no longer brings me the joy it once did. Real life is already exhausting enough, and I don't want something that used to make me happy to become another source of stress.
Instead, I'll be putting my time into another small hobby of mine: poetry. If you'd like to follow along with that side of me, I'll be sharing my writing on my new account: @crystle-le-poet.
To the person this is about: I hope one day you understand that words have consequences. Making assumptions about someone you don't truly know can have a much greater impact than you realize.
To everyone who supported my coding journey, thank you. Every like, comment, and kind message meant more than you probably know. I genuinely appreciate everyone who took the time to enjoy the things I created.
'No poet has or can have clean hands, because clean hands are themselves a fundamental contradiction. Clean hands do no worthwhile work.'- Prynne, The Rot by Evelyn Araluen.
I hope coding continues to bring happiness to others.
It just won't be bringing it to me anymore.
