The veil that secured her identity had just
been ripped away from her. The mirror that was given
by the game master took it, and she was staring back
at her real face. Her black hair, loosely falling against
her cheeks. Wide grey hues stared back at her, tears
threatening to spill over.
What a mistake this was. A dumb, stupid mistake.
All because of a boy who tempted her to get into this
game. The irony of it was that he was going to get it
tomorrow and play with her, but her curiosity won over
and she opened it the day it came out. Now she’s trapped
in a foreign world with strangers. No friends she could call
her own. Panic rooted deep in her core, suddenly disconnecting
with the reality that was faced in front of her.
“ If you die in the game, you die in real life. “
An icy chill went through her entire body at hearing
those words. Yes, this was an incredibly horrible mistake.
This was the first video game she’d ever played. She never
even did simple things like Tetris -- she had absolutely no
idea what would happen.
Her first idea was that he was bluffing, he could be
right? But the days passed into weeks and then to months,
and she watched people disappear, and the fear deep rooted
into her. She stayed solo, not because she wanted to work
alone, but because she didn’t want to get hurt. She didn’t want
anyone else to hurt her except herself. That way the death of
her would be her own fault.
Sinon stayed that way, alone, for a long time, until she
encountered a girl. A powerful girl, with flowing chestnut hair
who’s power left Sinon speechless. It was embarrassing how
they met. The archer had prepared to venture into the fields
of Floor 55, wanting to grind and help the progression, but her
healthbar teetered towards depleted, and if it hadn’t been for
the Knightress clad in white, she would have died.
She knew the uniform. The Knights of the Blood Oath
were not secretive, they were the most active guild, pushing
for progression to get out of this hellish game. Sinon once upon
a time, considered joining, but decided against. Solo players
were rare. . . but they existed, and helped a lot. Not to say Sinon
wanted to be like the Black Swordsman there was legends about
-- but she did.
But faced with not just a member of the Knights of Blood
Oath, but the second in command left Sinon speechless, and
horribly flustered. This woman saved her life, how could she
ever repay her? What was she even supposed to say?
Mouth hanging open, she tried to soothe her shaking limbs,
as she slowly got up, dusting herself off like it was no big deal, and
turned to the taller girl, who up close didn’t seem any older than she.
After composing herself once more, she broke eye contact
with the intense amber eyes that stared back at her.
