The most frustrating part about this whole thing is that, while LEllis and her fans whine about those evil Twitter mobs cancelling them, they also just ... get all the support of their fandoms and each other? And get to come back without much consequence?
Like yeah there are freaks who are like “uwu let’s cancel the next one now,” but most of the people genuinely criticizing them are in the vast minority? With little to no impact? Also, like, you can literally see that LEllis wasn’t canceled? She posted another video talking about being canceled which received overwhelming support? How is that being cancelled? Even Nick Robinson, a guy who got outed as a sex pest, is making a slow comeback and has a YouTube career. Even fucking J0nTr0n, a literal Nazi, has a career. And yet y’all think that LEllis, YouTube’s beloved sarcastic wine aunt, a well-spoken “woke” white lady, will get “cancelled?” What planet are you on?
Also it’s really fucking unfair to lump people who merely want to see some improvement and acknowledgement from influential online creators with the same freaks who don’t give a shit abt what they say and just want them cancelled because they personally don’t like them? Like I’ve been subscribed to LEllis for her video essays for literally years, and shamefully I was a fan of her when she was still with TGWTG, I grew up with her content. I don’t think she’s a Nazi or should be cancelled? But her pattern of behavior and lack of accountability is worrying, as is her glaring white privilege, so why shouldn’t I try to bring that up?
