Ade to the Poor
I guess this is a forerunner of those "bikini barista" places. But I am stumped on some of the logic. Having already moved ahead to run a story with the premise of Melody sexualizing herself on behalf of the male gaze and causing Tex Avery cartoon reaction, they decide that she is just showing a little too much skin here -- so comes the covering of her midriff, no longer is she wearing a bikini top and short shorts and now it is a body suit. The logic further falls apart in leafing through the digest reprinting this, as girls are dressed in about as much -- though I suppose that casually done with no reaction shots of "stimulated" boys means the other examples slide off the definition set for "too sexualized". Also I note that in the revision, her latex knee high boots are still made for walking.
As an aside, I do hope that the dog is just joining in the frenzy, chasing the running crowd.
I guess I follow the logic in deeming the word "stimulating" as having a possible connotation, and needing replacement with the word "satisfying". It is a quick editorial judgement call. But what do I make of that rewrite in the last panel? "You're the pits, rich kid" does not really roll off the tongue -- as opposed to just calling him "dumb". Maybe they want a wordplay with lemons? (Noted too -- Alexander Cabot III is a rich kid -- why is he throwing the adjective as a pejorative insult?)
