There is no doubt in my mind that the iPad as well as iOS is a great platform for music making. The OS itself was designed to be simple, where one touch actions are preferred over having multiple choices which can be confusing. The confusion can be greater when you need a certain action in a given amount of time. At any gig you can expect to be very uncomfortable when compared to your home setting that you are used to. Bad lighting, poor seating, and lack of equipment props make it even harder to do a simple task. With that said, is the iOS as good as it gets? Maybe Not. There have been others who have designed both their software and hardware specifically for DJs who need live MIDI control. The best part is that combos like Lemur as actually made to do one thing only – and they do it well. The guys on the iOS side have to beat around the bush with Apple Techs, whereas everything Lemur does is in-house. What is the difference that most of us will see? That would be the price of getting it all done.
