Finished my Chalet School reread! A couple of thoughts:
I didn't dislike Jack Lambert so much rhis time round - yes, she is utterly horrible to Jane, but it is called out in narrative, she repents, and she improves.
Reg Entwhistle, on the other hand, ugh! Granted I don't have the book where he was introduced, so he comes out of flipping nowhere, but I hate all his presumption - that he can have Len simply by asking her parents, that he has any place courting her at all when she's still at school... "I take it we're engaged, darling", what a great proposal, I don't think! I know Jack Maynard had similar lines about knowing what he wanted from Joey, but we also saw them being genuine friends and having fun together - which Len and Reg can't because she's still at boarding school! Joey was an adult and a published writer, it felt completely different... I will now headcanon Len as meeting someone better at Oxford to ease my annoyance 😁
