Premiere: Len Sander explore 'The Modern Cult Of Love'
In some ways the music of Swiss quintet Len Sander resembles the lake that sprawls southwards from their Zurich home – smooth and glinting on the surface, but defined by the depths beneath. The slick production values of their emotionally potent electronic pop is also a conduit for the thoughts of singer Blanka Inauen, whose reflections on romantic heartbreak provided the beating heart of 2015’s tenebrous trip-hop album Phantom Garden.
Len Sander’s local success has since spread further afield, and that is surely going to continue with follow-up album The Future of Lovers, which drops this Friday on Mouthwatering Records. A philosophical record that explores themes of imagination, sensuality, and how they might manifest in tomorrow’s (hyper)reality, it’s preceded by the dreamy track ‘The Modern Cult Of Love’, the luscious synths of which have settled exclusively on MusicMap this afternoon:
The Future Of Lovers by Len Sander
“This song strangely has many different lives”, Blanka Inauen explains. “The repetitive verses are freed by hymn-like choruses that again are contrasted by a ritualistic outro to the song. And the lyrics reflect these many different emotions, talking about the healing forces of love and about the promises and expectations in an early relationship.”
Talking about the album as a whole, Inauen says she always wonders “whether we can build something entirely new, something that is only based on dreams and visions – or whether we are so intertwined with our origins and our heritage that the future is already written in the patterns of our past…”
“What is happening with our bodies, with our sensual and material experience in these times of artificial intelligence and hyper-mobility? With this album we wanted to openly celebrate physicality and sensuality.”
We recommend you celebrate alongside Len Sander when The Future of Lovers arrives on Friday. Pre-order it now via Bandcamp.
