Animal Ally Spell (Leni-Lenape)
Sometimes a more concrete familiar is desired. According to a Leni-Lenape Indian tradition, babies are given a living, tangible animal ally, rather than just an abstract protective spirit. Usually a puppy or kitten is chosen, or some other appropriate companion animal. The animal is treated as a pet and encouraged to be the child’s companion. These pets are not shared: every child has his or her own. This is a life partnership.
Should the animal die, it is perceived as having been a buffer for the child, essentially having taken the “hit” meant for the child, particularly if the child has been threatened by illness or accident. The animal is buried with ceremonies, releasing the child from the relationship. The child is given another pet immediately
Should the child die, funeral rituals release the animal from the bond

women of mythology - allanque
a star personified, she returns to the northerly sky at night to give light to the souls that wander to and from home, that travel the cold and lonely roads of the north atlantic coast, journeying through the dark with only her meek light to illuminate the way.
she peers down from her heavenly domain at night, always searching and seeking out those that might need her help. flickering through tree branches, winking at them from her perch in the deep velvet sky, burning as brightly as she is able so those in the darkness can use her pale silver glow. she is a pale, shimmering beacon more radiant then any other star that hangs in the dark night sky.
Lenape village? In the middle of Bucks County?
Yeah, that may seem rather odd, but the Glacier Bandits stumbled upon that very thing when wandering around the Churchville Nature Center on Thanksgiving day.
Imagine our surprise when we see not just one hut, but a whole village's worth of huts and fire rings in a clearing. We had originally planned to hike some of the trails since we were traveling during the holiday, but this piqued our interest (Pique - to excite or arouse curiosity).
There were two large huts, manufactured in the original fashion (like I would really know, right?) and several other individual buildings and storage units. The large huts were constructed with reed mats as their roofs, and they were quite roomy inside, with sleeping mats, shelves, and fire pits.
Did we actually go back to the Land of the Lost? Funny, because I don't remember hurtling down a waterfall in a raft, and I was not traveling with anyone named Marshall, Will, or Holly.
Apparently, this is a living history museum open between April and October, and you can spend a weekend there learning all about Leni Lenape ways of food gathering, preparation, fire making, rope making, etc. If you are ever in the area, you should check it out, only when you go, make sure that the natives are there.
