So. LEGEND LEGEND LEGEND—

Sorry. But uh. Headcanons time !

I'm gonna talk about headcanons I have for him and the way I write him, so. If it sounds ooc, no it doesn't. He personally told these things to me

- And this warning is mostly for this one, but Legend is like a cat to me, in the sense that : he loves affection. He will melt into any hug. He sleeps better when he's held. Will he ask for it, though ? Fuck no, he'd rather die, get away from him (please pat his head)

- I think he started adventuring really young. I often put him at 9 or 10 in Alttp, mostly for drama value ngl, but also so that he can realistically be the veteran without needing for him to do one quest after the other without breaks. Get this poor guy some time to process a little... Not nearly enough, but still, a little !

- His uncle did come back after he wished for it with the Triforce, but... I don't think you can come back from the dead without consequences. I think he'll be ill and die either before Link's Awakening or Triforce Heroes— games where we see Link going on a quest by his own design. He needed to get away from his home for a while.

It's not all bad, though, and they had time to say goodbye at least ! And Uncle was glad to come back, not going to make it a 'came back wrong' horror story lmao—

- Ok, a funnier : ever since the dark world, bunnies actually follow Legend wherever he goes. I do have a one shot idea on this one, but to summarize : he can't say he likes this quirk because the bunnies do remind him of his dark world form, but also... They're bunny rabbits. They're adorable. He cuddles them in secret. No one must know

- On that note, I like to think that bunnies are Ravio's special interest. Like, there aren't any in Lorule anymore, but there were books about it and he read them all... and when he came to Hyrule, he absolutely lost his shit.

If you add this to the 'bunnies follow Legend' previous thing, he absolutely abuses from this ability to pet bunnies. He gave names to the regular visitors. He's living his dream !

Ok ok ok so

I've bought the Zelda Encyclopedia because I am in a hyperfixated rampage about LoZ. And on one hand it's the best thing ever, because special interest is going brrrr.

But ! But.

I've bought in french. Because I... Am french.

And I don't know if the english version has troubles, alright ? But THE FRENCH VERSION IS A BADLY TRANSLATED HELL and I need to rant.

Keep in mind that I didn't study the book. I've skimmed through. And I'm already holding my head in my hands in a dramatic 'losing my mind' posture.

But anyway ! Here's the defendant :

This is the book I'm talking about, and all the pictures that follow come from this book.

Follow me into translation hell !

Note : I actually usually prefer the french translation in Zelda ! They do a good job at translating things that make sense, leaving things as they are when it isn't needed, and I often find the translated characters' names prettier. (Example : Makar, the korok from Wind Waker, is called Dumoria. I have NO IDEA why it changes so much but it sound so much better in my opinion !) So this is not VF hate. This is genuine uncomprehension as to WHY IS THE BOOK LIKE THIS.

Now, you don't need to go far into the book to have a problem with it.

First few pages. Like literally before the actual content of the book. Presentation of the games. Easy enough, right ? Not hard to beta read, RIGHT ?

WHAT DO YOU MEAN "THE MINISHIP CAP". WHAT DO YOU MEAN. IT'S NOT LIKE THE TITLE IS WRITTEN ON THE PICTURE ABOVE. How did it happen ?? The name doesn't even change in french, help

"Miniship cap" I already want to quit and it's my INTRODUCTION to this book.

We can divide the mistakes of this book in three categories :

- Lore mistake

- Translation mistake

- Wtf mistakes

I would place "Miniship cap" in the WTF category, for obvious reasons. (HOW???)

The first two categories are easily justified : they asked someone to reread the book and the person wasn't very interested/didn't know Zelda well. But it makes the book LIE

Example of lore mistake :

The title here is " The Ancient Temple, marked by the loftwings".

THE L O F T W I N G S.

This is the ancient temple in Twilight Princess. This is supposed to read OCCAS ! SKYWARD SWORD WASN'T EVEN RELEASED YET !! LOFTWINGS DIDN'T EXIST !

Why did this happen ? Well, in french, Loftwings are called "Célestriers" (mix of the words "céleste", celestial, and "destrier", which is apparently the same in english but I've never seen it before, it's a horse usually or an animal you ride). And Occas ? Are called "Célestiens". People that lives in the sky, basically.

So yeah, Célestriers, Célestiens, I SEE the mistake, ok ?

But still. Uncool. Boo.

Now, example of translation mistake :

The first sentence here is a description of a picture, it reads "Aryll is abducted by Helmaroc King on Ganondorf's orders".

Why isn't this shocking to you, english reader ? Because Helmaroc King is the ENGLISH name of the big bird. In french, there are no "roi Helmaroc" ("roi" means king). It has been translated.

But maybe the book doesn't know, right ? IT'S NOT LIKE THE NAME IS WRITTEN ON THE NEXT PAGE, RIGHT ?

THERE. LE ROI CUIRASSE. THIS IS THE BITCH I KNOW ABOUT. I'M LOSING MY MIND

But again, alright, I guess someone didn't think to translate the name. Some characters's names aren't translated (example : french Skull kid is called... Skull kid. I am thankful for that), so maybe they just didn't THINK to check if there was a translation.

Even though. It was on the next page.

AND I WAS GOING TO LET ROI HELMAROC SLIDE. I WAS.

AND THEN I LOOKED AT THE SAME FUCKING PICTURE I TOOK OF THE BOOK.

First thing I underlined, "Mélodie", is a typo of Medli's name in french, which is "Médolie". I get it, it's an anagram, I've read it Mélodie my whole childhood, OK French Zelda Encyclopedia. OK.

BUT "ÉPÉE MAÎTRESSE" ?? NO.

THE MASTER SWORD IS NOT FUCKING CALLED "ÉPÉE MAÎTRESSE". MAÎTRESSE IS WHAT YOU CALL YOUR TEACHER WHEN SHE'S A WOMAN AND YOU'RE TEN, OK ?

(Actually, "maître" and its feminization "maîtresse" do mean master. But it's. It feels wrong. It's not the in-game name, and it feels wrong.)

THE MASTER SWORD IS "ÉPÉE DE LÉGENDE", OK ? LEGENDARY SWORD. THERE IS NO ÉPÉE MAÎTRESSE.

AT LEAST I HOPE.

Breathing in, breathing out... Ok. A not so important one :

"Les oiseaux" means "the birds", and yes, in english, those cuties are called "little birds" which would be literally "petits oiseaux" in french. (I know, too much vowels, I'm not here to defend my birth language BEAR WITH ME)

But in the VF ? They aren't 'birds'. They are PIOUPS. (Pronounced pyoop, it doesn't mean anything, just mimic the bird's noise)

THEY ARE 'PETITS PIOUPS' ALRIGHT ? AND I LOVE THEM. I'm just. Sad that their name isn't in the book. This is petits pioups erasure.

(After checking, the item they drop is called "plume d'oiseau", so "bird feather". The word "pioup" is just in the description of the item, so... Maybe it's just me. BUT STILL. LET ME CALL THEM PIOUPS IT'S ADORABLE)

And we're not even in my favorite category ! May I introduce :

The what the fuck mistakes

Here I want you to read the description of the picture 6.

"Playing the Song of Healing, Link gets his normal appearance back".

Ok, this is probably a description of when Link goes from Deku Scrub back to Hylian, so I am expecting a picture of Link !

You know, in a book, there can be translating errors... And, apparently, there also can be "we forgot to fucking translate" errors.

IN THE GODDAMN TITLES.

And I studied graphic design, alright. I know, TRUST ME, I know your eyes can get used to the titles and make you miss 'obvious' mistakes.

BUT THIS IS WHY YOU GET SOMEONE TO RE-READ. This is a fucking official book ! That has been published by probably very official publishers, I don't know, I haven't checked !

The pipeline from sweet apple to sour lemon?

I'm a little bit terrified by tagging the authors since I haven't asked for permission to post work inspired by what they did yet, but I don't want to do anything in their back jnezjnejnez so :

Hi ! If you see that, you both have had wonderful ideas that inspired me to write something that is becoming a massive project of mine ! I am talking about it because I got asked about my wips, but if you're not okay with me posting the actual fic, I'd be fine keeping it to myself :)

In both these fics, Legend, Twilight and Wind know each other from the adventure they shared during Triforce heroes, except when they're brought together for Linked Universe, Twilight and Wind don't recognize Legend. He changed too much, he lost too many people and is now unrecognizable from the kid that he was during Triforce heroes.

In And there are ten, though, there's a twist : A tenth hero arrives, and... It's this younger version of Legend, that Wind and Twilight of course recognize this time !

Basically, this wip takes the scenario from And there are ten, but with the background story from Hiding behind Plaster and Ceramics : no one stayed in Legend's life and he is traumatized by partings, so he decides to be cold and rude with the others in order not to get attached and not suffer when they inevitably have to separate.

Except, after a few weeks of travelling, a new portal appear, and Apple, a younger version of himself, comes out of it... And obviously, this time, Twilight and Wind recognizes him, and everyone is protective of him since he's the youngest one here, and though Legend decided himself that he'd be mean on purpose so that no one cares about him, the comparison between how they act towards Apple and towards him makes him very bitter.

You can guess, with how I talked about liking to write about healing and stuff, that it's going to get worse before it gets better.

This was supposed to be a little something that I wrote for myself, just because I craved more for these ideas, and then I talked about it to @sweeteastart, and... They were so invested ? Like full-on asking me questions and if they could read it and stuff, and I just realized, yeah, it's starting to become a good story, I should try to flesh it out !

If you’re still taking requests for these whumptober days, for nightmares how about hurt/comfort Wild whump where Legend’s doing the comforting. (Alternatively Wild happening to be the one awake for one of the Vet’s nightmares could also be interesting.)

For voiceless maybe Wild has a mutism episode while with the chain & has an identity crisis about it. (“Oh no am I becoming like my past self,” that sorta thing.”)

& if you need ideas for Only For Emergencies that involves something other than the FD mask… how about one of the medallions (they’d be tricky to use in a large group) or perhaps the magic cape of invisibility. Maybe Legend gives one of the Chain members something & tells them to only use it in an emergency (lo & behold an emergency happens of/c). If it’s Wild he can hold off on using it for as long as possible in-part b/c he’s afraid of breaking it?

Oh oh anon you can't do this to me, now it's a two parter in my head. Legend comforts Wild one night and gets comforted another. Why are you cursing me like that, I am so unable to shut up this will be 3k words !!! (Joking here, thank you for giving me ideas !)

Hmmm I like the idea of a mutism episode ! It might not end up being Wild, though, I'll think about it. I do have some headcanons about how verbal the Link are/were ; I'm thinking about Four or Warriors too. Wild is definitely a challenger, though, but sorry in advance if it ends up being another one !

You got me for the Only for Emergencies, I was trying to get something else than the Fierce Deity or the ocarina ! I might end up writing something with Time anyway though. It just fits this prompt very well, and is in less than a week, aaaaa

I do like your idea of Legend giving things to the chain, hmmm. I will keep this idea on the pot and see if I manage to cook something...

There's just one small problem : if I listened to myself this whole whumptober would be me torturing Legend lmao, I'm already having ideas with him for 8-ish prompts and he will probably end up in more (if I need to write something quickly. Ooooo you really sniped two of my most dark fics out of the three you chose 😂

I've already answered about "This is starting to feel like bullying" so I'll answer for the other two !

Let's start with the softer one :

- The Autism fic

"The Autism fic" is about... What's in the title ! lmao

It is also one of the Legend-centric one, but everyone has an important role and will get their moment to shine :)

Directly from my notes :

"Everyone is autistic 🎉

Legend has been raised to hide and mask it, and is ""conditionned"" to think it's rude to let autistic traits show

So at first most of the Links are like "wow, what an asshole"

Time and Wars are going full parents mode, they want everyone to feel comfortable in the group, so they try to protect them from ableism... which Legend does without knowing what it is

So they don't get along well

Actually it's like :

Know they are autistic and what it means :

- Warriors (spent a lot of time researching trauma response and the way the brain worked after the war (firstly to help his friends))

- Time (learned the terms during the war)

- Four (not the exact word, but he knows about neurodivergence)

Know they are "different" :

- Hyrule

- Sky

- Legend

Never really thought about it :

- Twilight (when he was a rancher it perfectly met his needs (I'm sure petting goats when you're overwhelmed is like THE remedy) and afterwards, some people were rude in castletown but he thought it was because he was a villager)

- Wind (is seen as a hyperactive and curious kid but not really more)

Wild is special because he knows, but also think it's because of the 100 years sleep thing ? And who cares, he saved the world and spend most of his time alone anyway."

I have the story planned out and a few scenes written, but it's mostly ideas and random scenes, it's far from being done (and not the wip I'm working on right now !)

Basically, in the downfall timeline people get more scared of difference and intolerant (maybe even because the fallen hero was autistic and they're like "well look how that turned out", but it's... A pretty sad idea). So Legend has been raised to hide it, and have constently been told that the way he acted (stimming, questionning social cues and stuff) was rude, unproper, and more importantly, dangerous for him.

I'll put the beginning here, because it summarize the whole thing pretty well, but I'm sorry for the length of this answer zhehhzehbhbezhez

Snippet :

"Apparently, the weirdness was a hero thing. 

Legend was quite puzzled upon this discovery. He had thought his whole life that the weird was a 'him' thing, and a bad one. That what was natural to him was very rude and that he needed to change it.

He was used to conceal.

He was used to act, smile and look in the eyes and laugh with everyone else. He was used to control, checking every few minutes if his hands were still and quiet. He was used to pretend to be like everyone else, and to be able to release those barriers when he was home, to collapse for an hour or so in his room, in the dark and under his covers.

Somehow, when he traveled during quests, he got surprised to note that he was less tired from a day of walking and exploring than from a day in town. Somehow he felt more like himself when he was alone on the road and bouncing on his feet when he saw a fun animal that he had never seen before.

Somehow, he had associated that feeling with travels.

And he was quickly understanding, as he spent time with other heroes, that he should have associated it with being alone.

He couldn't rest. Well, no, he could rest, they slept on the road and they didn't overwork themselves, but he couldn't rest like he did at home. 

Because everyone would see, and it wasn't because they had some of the weird that they would accept all of his.

The first few days, he managed. He had met the heroes while in a bad mood, and didn't bother to force any smile he didn't want to. They categorized him as grumpy, and not only was that fair, "grumpy" was an incredibly easier role to act on than "agreeable".

(Probably because it was less polite, but... It was a bit late to be, and they didn't seem to mind too much.)

But after a while, it started to wear him out.

He joked less and mocked more. He was more tired and thus less considerate. He didn't manage his tone as well, nor his facial expressions.

He played with his rings a lot (which was an acceptable way to let out some steam, he had found out while observing adults in town, but only as long as it didn't become obsessive). He felt frustrating needs to just gesticulate nonsensically until his body felt less stiff, less foreign, more... Right.

He didn't feel right, was what it was.

And he resented the other heroes for not making any effort."

- Bitch are u okay

I want to clarify one thing : when a wip have a funny title, most of the time they are speaking to me !

"This is starting to feel like bullying" meant bullying towards Legend, that I kept writing whump about.

So the question "bitch are u okay" is directed towards ME, and the answer is no :D (at least when I started writing this)

This is legit the heaviest wip I worked on :)

To put it simply, Legend is depressed, very much so, and Dark Link feeds off the heroes' negative feelings. This doesn't mix well as you can guess !

The first part of the fic would be a descent to hell. Poor Lege is already struggling, and the more he tries to make an effort and do things, the more he feels like he messes up. So why try at all ?

I think I have written about darker themes, but the fact that this is often Legend's POV makes it kind of... Hard to read, in a way ?

I only write on this wip when I'm either in a good mood and know it won't affect me, or when I struggle and need to vent, no in-between because then it would make me feel down.

And, yeah, Legend is having a breakdown in this one. A big one 😅

But what is important to me is that the second part of the fic is about healing. It's about how having a good support system helps, how healing isn't linear but progress is always progress. It's not just a vent fic, I want Lege to get better, dammit !

The thing is, I like "healing" as a theme for my fictions, and the next long fic I plan on posting also speaks about this (with a twist). I just don't know if I should fuse those two fics (but I'll lose some of what makes them special in both cases) or if I should just assume that I'm always writing the same stories in different fonts 😆

I don't have a big snippet for this one, but just to set the tone, it starts like this :

" It's just one of those days.

Legend wakes up, barely opens his eyes, and suddenly, existing is too hard.

Getting up and eating and talking with friends sounds like torture. Having to wait for the night to be able to curl up under his covers is already an ordeal, and for Nayru's sake he's not even out of his bedroll yet. "

Hello! For the WIP ask game, how about “bullshitting”? Is this also Legend-centric? 👀 so excited to know more!

YAYY I'm happy someone asked about this one :D because NO, shockingly, it is NOT Legend-centric ! And it's not sad, either ! (*gasps in the audience*)

If I manage to write it one day, it would be a fic with 9 chapters (each one centered on one Link), where the situation is chaotic and they need to bullshit their way out of it. The chapters would be organized from the Link you'd most expect to be chaotic to the one you'd less expect it !

And, well, I think I'm just going to put my notes bare-boned on here, because it'll be better than any summary (and I find them pretty funny myself dshjdshjhsddsj)

"Every Link is a master at bullshitting their audience. Some are willing to, some are reluctant. But if the situation ask for it, they will create chaos in a heartbeat !

More likely to less likely :

Wild Wind Hyrule Four Legend Time Sky Twilight Wars

Wild and Wind : please ask them to create a distraction. They have so many ideas, come on. They need chaos like they need oxygen.

Hyrule : aaw, he's so calm and quiet he wouldn't want to... Oh, oh he bites. Oh he's running away with Wild

Four and Legend : pretend they don't like chaos. Thrive in it. Are goddamn theater kids and their plans are usually way more dramatic than needed.

Time : he's, like, the father figure, he won't be pulled into bullshitterie that easi— what was that ? He's encouraging the younger ones to create chaos ? What do you mean he's actively participating ??

Sky : 'Hyrule type' except he weaponizes it. The reason he's so low on the list isn't because he doesn't like chaos, it's because he's got such a perfect angel face, you'd believe he never wronged anyone in his life. Wind knows. Sky is a key piece in most of his plans. The rest of the chain is unaware.

Twilight : he's the reasonable one, but he has a little silly in him. He can be talked into bullshit. He will complain about it, but he puts his whole heart in his role when it's time to act.

Wars : Actively tries to prevent chaos from happening. Fails most of the time. Grumbles a lot about failing. But if the situation needs it ? If the man in front of him will only give him the information he wants this way ? Then by Hylia, he'll put on a red nose and clown shoes if it makes their quest go forward."

This is one of the most unserious ways I have planned a fic fdjkfdjjkdf But in every game Link is an agent of chaos and I just want to see them use their talent ! You can notice that the notes are pretty vague though, because I just have vibes for now, and no part is written down. I just need to create situations now !

Here I go :

- I am fairly satisfied with my writing style ! There's always room for improvement of course, but I like what I do.

- I am fairly androgynous ? Which is good for the gender
