here 2 say archie's weird podcast is SO fun and it's making my brain vibrate and i have a lot of thoughts on the riverdaleification of supernatural and i think it's brave and powerful that u explore the clear intersections of those Media
<3 !!! glad u like it!! we really like making it!
anyways. i think the riverdaleification of spn is really interesting... full disclosure dabbnatural is not my thing but i still find it interesting bc to me it highlights what makes each of them work: riverdale works on the heightened sense of reality carrying you through loop after loop. the dialogue being as exaggerated and ridiculous as the plotlines makes whole thing have a consistent threshold of disbelief rather than some shows that have riverdaleian plotlines with normal dialogue, like roswell, that don't work as well. its not to everyone's taste, but it rarely fails to live up to the level of ridiculous drama it leads you to expect. the characters have depth, and the relationships (some of them anyways) are compelling, but people watch for the plot! at least, the people i respect!
supernatural worked on like, basically exclusively characterization-- the plot was not what kept anyone watching, it was the relationships and characters (not just destiel/sastiel/whatever, even those groups who shall not be named were still watching for specific dynamics rather than plotlines). so the shift away from coming up with whatever villain facilitated interesting character interactions towards.... having something interesting and flashy to do week to week, season to season changed the texture of the show. some ppl really like it, some (me) don't, but most people agree it changed!
sorry for rambling like this, you didn't even ask a question lol thank you for the kind words!! - leo
