Fue el primer director de orquesta nacido en los EEUU que obtuvo fama mundial, célebre por haber dirigido la Orquesta filarmonica de Nueva York, por sus Conciertos para jóvenes y en la televisión entre 1958 y 1972 y por sus múltiples composiciones, entre ellas West side Story (1957), Candide y Un día en Nueva York (1944). R.E.M.-End of the world When I was about ten that whole Y2k thing was going on and everyone was loosing their shit.
