Leonism
Tartletta and I decided to become Leonists yesterday.
He has a strangely simple and positive way of looking at things.
Me to Leon: "Leon, life's not that simple. Just being a realist here."
Leon to me: "I'd say that I'M the realist."
Maybe we really do unnecessarily complicate things. We overthink and and all our "problems" and "issues" become a tangled mess of complexes and dilemmas.
"I lack empathy" - Leon
But perhaps it's not simply empathy he lacks. Perhaps it's an unwillingness to get caught up in the messy workings of the average human mind.
Leon on Tartlett leaving for America for a year and therefore the dilemma of relationships:
"it's not as if she's 13 and going away to live with her family is it? It's not like she'll never be seen again and that's it. She's just going away, but she still LIVES in England. It's basically an extended holiday!"
And despite me trying to explain that actually, it's not that simple and that there are all these other things to consider, such as how difficult it would be to do long distance like that when nothing has had a chance to begin...well, maybe there is something we can all learn from Leon.
Although, I'm not sure what.
~
Still, he ended the argument on a heartwarming note. Something along the lines of:
"if you find someone that you can get close to and you both like each other like that, then you shouldn't just throw it away."
oh and also:
"so they're just going to give up then? But they're still gonna talk all the time anyway. It's just self torture. Even if they don't get together it's still gonna hurt either way."
Sometimes, I think Leon isn't given enough credit for his emotional depth. And by the way, imagine all of this being said in an insistent, Geordie accent.
