What was this, the 20th? 21st? 21st time she’d asked him about tennis in under eight minutes. Not even Momota was this stubborn, which was really saying something about this girls, determination? Stupidity? Absolutely boggling, who’d want to play with a prisoner anyways? Let alone one on death row? What a weird person his senpai was.

Hoshi puts the candy back into his mouth, giving her yet another stare that REALLY conveyed that he didn’t want to play tennis today or ever, before speaking with a tone that sounded much more like a parent scolding a child than anything. “I don’t play tennis anymore, and no matter how much you ask, I won’t play it.” He wasn’t going to pick up a tennis racket, he wasn’t going to get nostalgic; he was going to try to leave his senpai to her own business while going to do something- anything else.

   In truth, he finds himself pleased that she’d consider trying to involve him in something she enjoys. Most people don’t even attempt to talk to him let alone get him involved in a group activity. If she were not present the breeder just knows they’d ignore him, or just tell him to go away.

   But in Asahina’s case there is no incentive, no authority figure forcing her to spend time with him. She just does it, albeit in a rather overbearing way sometimes. He does appreciate it, even if he doesn’t appear to. His persona must be maintained. Which is one of the reasons why he continues to refuse her offers.

   The other reason is the fact that he can’t swim. He really does not want her to know that. He suspects she’d laugh at him.

   “Just ... ask another. I suspect you have quite a few other companions that would be overjoyed to spend time with you.”
