Full Permets-tu scene from the 1925 les mis movie adaption for your enjoyment

my own opinion under the cut

I really like this adaption in total it was for the most part very source accurate (something had to happen in all the 6 hours of the movie) and I must say I quite like this scene as well. I didn't much like how grantaire was for the few scenes he was in (literally only stumbling down the stairs and falling asleep, waking once to do the whole 'you'll see' thing and falling asleep again and then this scene). I felt like he was too silly especially at the end.

This was my thought at the beginning of this scene as well, the tu permets isn't half as emotional as it could be (though there is no audio) and he's still silly when he has, what I suppose is, his monologue about two birds with one stone and I am one of them. (On that note I also feel like they should have put more focus on him actually saying vive la republique and taking an official stance but whatever, I think he probably says it after the Permets-tu we just don't get it written)

After this however, as soon as Enjolras takes his hand he becomes much more emotional, way less jokey and almost gentle imo and I really love this part. I love his sigh, I love how Enjolras takes his hand (though I didn't much like how this adaption did enjolras as a character) and I love the two shots of them just before they die. I especially like the way grantaire blinks and looks away again just at the end.

I do truly like this movie a lot and would recommend it if you have about 6 hours to spare you can find the whole thing on Internet archive :-)
