I don't think you have to feel sorry for him, but if you'd been raised into that and just found out a out it, would you be able to snap into action right away? Not that you should trust him blindly, but maybe you should look at what he does from here on out, even if you disagree with what he did immediately.

Courf, I think the fact that you care so much about Enjolras is very admirable, but what I think the other people that are commenting are trying to say is that Combeferre didn't have any knowledge of what the government was doing. Also, what do you mean he chose to do nothing? I'm not sure if your definition of nothing involves breaking the law to save someone he has never really met before, but I don't think most people's do.

He has the knowledge NOW. Yeah, he helped Enjolras get out, but what? You save a kid from unlawful imprisonment and then go back to living your life?? “Oh hey it turns out the government’s corrupt but no biggie! I’m in the perfect position to actually do something about it but NAH” –Courfeyrac

You know, I understand how you feel, but have you considered what Combeferre may be going trough? He didn't even konow that the government could do something like that AND that his father was aware of that and did nothing. For you it's just a guard, but for him is someone he loves, and it's must be difficult to assimilate all that happened.

Courfeyrac wait!! Maybe Combeferre is telling the truth!! Do you really think someone put his ass on the line to keep Enjolras safe for months on end would really have tried to hurt him?! Maybe what's happening with Enjolras isn't caused by Combeferre, but by the torture or by being completely incapacitated and isolated for so long??

Listen, I know what Enjolras went through was horrendous. I don’t…I can’t even think about it. And it pisses me the hell off that our own fucking government did that to him and think they’re getting away with it.

Combeferre saw what they did to Enjolras and apparently sees no problem with it. He has direct access to the captain of the guard, to the king, and he chooses to do nothing. Now after spending months with him, Enjolras has lost all his interest in the cause. That’s no coincidence. –Courfeyrac
