One second, Naegi was laying in the pod, all lit up green with tiny fluorescent lights ; electrodes stuck all over pale skin. The next, he was somewhere else entirely... a tropical island with white sands and crystalline blue waters. The Future Foundation member hadn't even had time to close his eyes, making the blur that was him entering the simulation incredibly disorienting.
Shaky, like a newborn deer wobbling about on its legs for the first time, Naegi stood and looked about the island. Everything was exactly the way he had planned it -- on this part of the beach anyhow. Looks could be deceiving, however. Naegi, and the other members of the Future Foundation had picked up on strange readings from inside of the New World Program not too long after they had put all the Super High School Level Despair members under. It had been a virus, brought into the program by one of the children.
The Future Foundation had tried to eradicate the virus from the outside, but each attempt was skillfully thwarted. It seemed that the only way to dispose of it would be from the inside. So the 'lucky' boy had been elected to enter the New World Program, and figure out how to destroy it there.
For the next few hours, Naegi wandered about the available islands, trying to stay out of sight from the rehabilitating students ; he also looked for clues on how to get rid of the virus... but whoever programmed it was crafty and left no trace. Disheartened, Naegi signaled the other foundation members that he was ready to leave the simulation.
He waited maybe fifteen minutes, but nothing happened. He didn't reawaken in his glass pod, gasping for breath as the electrodes were peeled from his face. The boy's confusion only lasted a few minutes, however, until he realized what had happened. The virus had trapped him inside, much like it had the others. Oh crap.
To make matters even worse, Naegi spotted another student making their way towards him. Quickly, he blurted out
"Listen, I know this looks and sounds suspicious... but my name is Naegi Makoto. I'm a member of an organization called the Future Foundation. I came here to try to help everyone and get rid of Monobear -- but I can't and now I'm stuck here."
