Me: "I dont know, maybe the book series about the horrors of war, the consequences of power struggles, pacifism vs violence the effects of war and how it impacts every one in society, criticizing authoritarian and corrupt governments, displacement of people and refugees, identity, trauma, LGBTQ+ rep, environmental activism, prejudice and racial conflicts, different family dynamics, disability rep, exploration of free will vs control, the discovery of censored knowlege by the people, Colonialism/ Cultural Erasure, morality, shifted gender roles and expectations whilst not degrading the other. "
Bigot: *GASP*
me: "and it was a children's book"
bigot: *GASPS MORE DRAMATICALLY*
Me: oh wait? is that your kid? thats a really good book
the kid: WINGS OF FIRE IS THE BEST
me: yes it is buddy
...
But on a serious note, I am so grateful for Tui. we need more books like this. Thank you for writing about these issues in a way for children to understand. i admit I need to read the last two books that have been released but wings of fire was such a major part of my childhood and even now, almost a "adult" im obsessed still. I know for me and may others that this book series meant so much. Idk i just felt like i needed to say this. especially with how the world is now.
