It was. It really was an awkward situation, though it wasn’t hard for her to find herself feeling out of place in even the most harmless of scenarios, but this one took the cake. They had both gone to grab the same comic and it seemed to be the last remaining comic of its kind in the store so it wasn’t going to be very easy deciding who got to go home with it. Helene decided that they were probably going to have to quiz each other on why the other needed it before choosing who really needed it the most, but even the prospect of that wasn’t fun; she didn’t really like confrontation in social situations and as she looked at him, she pushed her frames higher on her nose. ‘ Well, we know at least one of us will be going home empty handed. ‘
Jake’s fingers hover over the plastic that hugged the sought-after comic. No matter what he said, he was a comic addict. When he wasn’t out in nature or watching movies, a comic was usually found opened, a few pages in, and lying in his lap. Sometimes even while doing the other activities. So it’s no doubt that his heart aches a little at the thought of not grabbing this issue —- however, the pain is nothing compared to if he knew someone else who also really wanted it didn’t get it. Sometimes, he can be too nice for his own good. Or, at least, he likes to think that’s true. He always did force himself to be a gentleman.
After a moment of contemplation, he lowers his hand, placing it in his short’s pocket, just like the other one. A soft sigh later and he feels ready to speak. ‘ Take the thing. I don’t have much use for it anyhow. ’ That’s a lie, and so is the smile on his face, but he doesn’t mind too badly. ‘ I’m sure I’ll find another one of these puppies on the interwebs one way or another. ’
