That’s an interesting thing anon wrote cause it basically contrasts with the annoying people who think Joe’s the crazy hermit man who made Taylor go private. It was more the contrary. She has to be more private cause her life was literally collapsing, and he was there helping her, all the time, and obviously this constant support *helped* her go back to her “normal” life (as in, going back to work and making music and being a public figure even if more private). So like, no he wasn’t the one who made her step back, he was the one who changed his approach to the media because of her, and that’s amazing like, he readjusted his life to be with her. I don’t think he minds having to be more private than he was pre-2016 now, cause imo it’s worth it cause like... it’s obvious how much he loves her so it feels like not a big sacrifice. And another thing, when Taylor said in MA that she was “falling in love with someone who had a normal, balanced life” that doesn’t mean he was a hermit jshdsj she said balanced for a reason. He did his work, press and interviews and was still able to feel normal, and obviously he also wasn’t a big star who was always being talked about like her 2 exes at the time, so it felt safe for her to be with someone “balanced”

So many of the lyrics on rep make so much sense with the context we have now... like "I did one thing right" and "my one and only, my lifeline" and "I woke up just in time" and "starry eyes sparking up my darkest night"

And obviously none of that negates any of the work she's put into making it through and recovering and working towards healing, like as per her own words, she absolutely did climb up the cliff and turn the car around, and that can definitely co-exist with the evermore bridge and parts of TIMT

Hiddleswift imo was as bad for Taylor as it was for Tom. I think he created this fantasy of her based on their meeting at the Met, and was enamored with that. He was essentially in love with the idea of Taylor Swift™, rather than Taylor. And I think after Calvin, she really wanted somebody who worshipped the ground she walked on. I don’t think she realized she was using him in the beginning; I doubt she saw Tom and thought “oh there’s my getaway car!” ykwim? And based on heels-and-thong gate and the fact that she was with him even though Hiddleswift renewed a shit ton of slutshaming, I think she really was into him. But when she was alone in Australia when Snapchat-gate happened, she realized he didn’t really ~get her, and he didn’t understand the gravity of this situation on her. She was probably really hurt and confused, and this was when she needed the most support, but Tom just...wasn’t there for her. Not because he didn’t want to be there, but because he didn’t realize she needed it. Their time apart in August probably made her realize he was just a rebound. I don’t think Joe was as big a factor in their breakup as much as it was her realizing they weren’t compatible. I also think that was why she was so mad after the GQ article; he was out there publicly confessing his love when that was the last thing she wanted. Hiddleswift was even more of a hoax than Tayvin because everything about it seems like a fairytale, but it was all a mirage kinda. Taylor needed somebody who just loved her and treated her like a normal girl, which is why she and Joe lasted.

Oh for sure. Like he reached out to her the second she was single and I think she really liked that he was so keen and the exact opposite of Calvin but as time went on, she realised that they just weren't compatible and that would've happened regardless of snapgate or her being friends with Joe or anything else that happened that summer

The hot girl summer mess of it all is so funny to me, but on the other hand it's so upsetting to think about? She was on the other side of the world without any of her friends/family and Tom didn't really get how badly she was affected by everything because he was only in love with the idea of her... like she must've felt so so alone 😐

Saying Joe was the reason for Taylor being more private would MAYBE make sense if that was the only thing she’s private about but she’s protective of everything in her personal life now not just him. Exactly oh my god! It's just so weird like we have her on record going off about social media being brain clutter and why her comments have to be off for her own sanity and why pap photos make her uncomfy and why she actively takes measures to prevent being overexposed.... like that old lifestyle worked for her in 2010, the cracks started to show in 2013 but she kept going, she tried to power through the 1989 era, and then shit hit the fan in 2016 and now she doesn't live that way anymore because she genuinely can't.

And it's also because she doesn't want to either? Like constantly working and noticing fans sounds mind-numbingly boring (and there's no point when we throw money at her regardless). Same with her never taking photos with fans outside of work lmao she simply just doesn't feel like it 🗿 and fair enough because it would be exhausting to be ~on~ all the time.

They were also friends during all the drama so I'm sure he adviced her whenever she told him how overexposed she was feeling to just board the windows up and to stop letting strangers into her every move and live without being up for discussion 24/7.He really was like GURL ur living a circus for a life and just woke her inner need to find real love not just this camera ready pop mayhem

I think you're taking his words out of context, because he never says shit about celeb culture unless a journo is being batty and asking weird questions about Taylor 😭 if someone says "okay so YOU'RE Mr Taylor Swift hm what do you have to say for yourself" and you know your words are gonna be overanalysed by a rabid fanbase, you won't exactly start gushing about how amazing stan culture is.

Also, this should be common knowledge but what she talks about on long story short / evermore / the rep poems is so much More than the Great Public Cancellation and a few twitter hashtags. People who think they're so smart for linking candids from summer 2016 and being like SEE SHE ONLY WENT PRIVATE IN NOV bother me to no end, because the entire point is that she was trying to act unbothered for so long, which was why everything completely collapsed in the winter. And since I mentioned candids, it's true that there was clearly a Noticeable shift in November when she stopped doing pap walks and started hiding from them sometimes, but figuring out the actual reason behind that really isn't rocket science.

Fair enough, like I think she originally wanted to come off as completely unbothered by the Calvin breakup and that's why she and Tom kept getting papped everywhere. But after a few weeks, she realised it wasn't helping and just made the GP despise her more, and then changed her mind.

Although in her defense, calling the paps and not making any effort to hide ≠ confessing your love publicly in a cover story 6 months after you had already been ghosted by them 💀
