King Steve was almost a thing of the past
You would catch his attention in an insanely weird way
An article in the school paper
He never looked at the damn thing, but the ONE time he DID, he saw your writing
It was a very opinionated piece, but very well written. It was something you were passionate about and weren't afraid to speak your mind on
He knew of you, obviously, everyone did. But he never really knew you
You were always one of the loners, much like Jonathan. But it was because you chose to be
You hung around Billy quite often, but you weren't his type. He was a surprisingly good friend who was always down for a good time that included lots of booze and cigarretes
But Steve found you intriguing
He would watch you from a distance for a while, just observing. If he was being honest, he found you intimidating and he had to work up the courage to talk to you
You weren't the easiest person to get to know at first. But eventually, you warmed up to him
He loved your hair. Sure, he was used to seeing other girls dye their hair. But it was never anything like yours
Your fiery personality and foul mouth had gotten you into trouble more times than you cared to admit
And he was always there to bail you out

Which only served to prove to him you were more badass than he thought
The two of you got a studio apartment after high school and kept a close eye on the kids
You thought Steve's friendship with Dustin was both hilarious and adorable and you supported it 100%
During your second run in with the Upside Down, Steve realized how much he loved you
And he proposed

As he was shoving a dead demodog into the fridge
It was so nonchalant and so typical of your relationship that you didn't even question it. You just said yes
