“... but obviously you didn’t find it funny.”
He’d been passing by the same walkway of the same house on the same street for more than a week now. With his poor little car in the shop he’d been resigned to walking to and from work. It wasn’t so far, and with the weather starting to get so nice, Jaejoong really did enjoy the exercise. But whenever he passed by this particular spot, chills shot down his spine that had nothing to do with the colder weather.
Stopping in his tracks, he turned just enough to see the dark house. Just like always, there was a lone figure, sanding at one of the windows, and just like always they disappeared once Jaejoong stared too long. Fighting back the chills he huffs, turning fully towards the intimidating building. Really now, what kind of weirdo...
Making up his mind, he starts to walk closer, his feet leaving the sidewalk and stepping onto the darker ground of the walkway. He pushes at the low iron gate experimentally, and it swings open with an ominous creak. He gulps, looking back up at the house as he approaches. The figure in the window hasn’t shown themselves again.
The walk seems like it takes forever. It certainly didn’t seem like the house was so far from the street, but the closer he gets, the larger the house gets, looming over head. There’s really no going back now as he steps onto the creaky porch. His hand totally isn’t shaking as he lifts it up, loudly knocking on the door a few times. “Hello? Anyone home?”
