Lessons from Hollywood

Hollywood taught me, that for your life to count, you must...

find love. Via a partnership. Man-woman preferred.

find a love that is extraordinary. The harder it was to find that love, or for the two of us to get together, the more valuable the relationship.

have a creative outlet, that is close to your heart.  

turn that creative hobby into a successful business.

have enthusiasm and meaning in your life, even if you are a car salesman, you ought to be the best car salesman ever and find that selling these cars is of immense value.

have a great rags-to-riches story; struggling waiter to multi millionaire is  better than struggling doctor to multi millionaire, 300 lbs lady gets to 120 lbs is better than 140 lbs lady gets to 120lbs. 

find your destiny. And your destiny is something amazing, different from what you are doing now. And if you are not careful, you may just miss it. Like all the other ordinary people. 

And i never really thought to question any of it. Till now.

Why do I go to work everyday?

I go to work, because I signed a contract with my company to show up at 9 every morning, and to stay till 5. At least.

I go to work, because, I studied for years to able to work, at the place that I do. 

I go to work, because I need the money. How else would I be able to afford the life I have?

I go to work, because I have a have a good job, that pays well; I should be grateful. 

I go to work, because I am sure, that somebody, somewhere promised me that something amazing would happen if I agreed to this. 

I go to work, because I am also sure that somebody somewhere promised me that something terrible would happen if I didn't. 

I go to work, because a part of me believes in hard work, and thinks laziness is bad, idleness is bad, a gentle life is bad. 

I go to work, because, well.... what else would I do, if I didn't go to work?

How many of these reasons are still valid, still true? How many of these are good enough reason to commit to a lifetime of devoting most of my waking hours to providing a service? In exchange for money, the label of respectability, and possibly some prestige? Is there another way?
