His hands shake as they come up to cup her face, rough palms lying gingerly along the delicate curve of her jaw, thumbs pressed to her temples. She looks so very pretty; her copper hair shimmers in the flickering candlelight, and her cheeks are flushed pink, rose petal lips pressed into a thin line. The one thing he can’t stand, though, is the disgruntled expression she wears, even as her eyelashes kiss her cheeks.

He leans down, presses his mouth briefly to her forehead. His heart flutters in his chest. "Merry Christmas."
