Project:Â Female Guardsman Cosplay (Part 1Â - Research)
Warhammer Fest and London MCM are both fast approaching. This year my friend, Freya (known here on tumblr as @freyas) asked me to help create a Warhammer cosplay with her. So let’s get started.
Although Freya plays as Tau on the tabletop she has been inspired by the brilliant Lt. Mira from the Space Marine video game.
Lucky for us someone has ripped Mira’s 3D model from the game and made it available to download so we could analyse her armor from every angle.
Although Freya isn’t cosplaying as Mira, the armour that Mira wears is what we are basing the costume on. Mira’s armor is practical and doesn't adhere to the sci-fi/fantasy cliche of over sexualizing women.
As you can see Mira’s armour also features a number of elements that are not found on standard Guard armour; notably more protective greaves, vambraces and pauldrons. These additions make the armor more interesting without making it less recognisable as a Cadian Trooper.
Looking at artwork of female guardsman showed us that unique haircuts are totally canon so we won’t be building a helmet. We will be showing off Freya’s wicked blue hair.
With all this in mind the character of Veteran Sergeant Astra was born. Astra is an energetic leader with a fiery loyalty to her squad and her Emperor.
