So, about three-ish days ago I told myself I would do a quick sketch of Sadiya, my BL3 OC, since I didn’t like the first drawing. Quick as in, maybe a few hours. Whoops.
Anyway, I actually like this. I tried to add detail to the hair but it just looked weird and veiny. I’ll try again on a different piece.
I changed her design a bit, but it still embodies the ‘rich cat mean girl’ vibe. It isn’t exactly how I want to be able to draw, but at least it’s getting better. My issue right now is with colors, I think. Sketching out actual body+anatomy is something can be done with enough time and patience, but coloring and details is harder for me, personally. I used the airbrush tool to add some blush and a slight darkness for a bit of depth, but looking at how other people just knock it out of the park with texture and color tells me there is a lot more work to put in and endless room to improve. I didn’t try that much with this because it was just supposed to be a quick piece, but I want to get out of the cartoony style and develop something more life-like and realistic.
This might be too specific, but the kind of style I want to develop is the sort of Percy Jackson-fanart style? The Rick Riordan fandom has this certain style that I admire and enjoy a lot. I’m not looking for crazy realism like Leng Jun, but I don’t want all of my work to be very cartoony and animated. If I had time and attention span I’d finally watched the tutorials I have saved in my Watch Later YT playlist.
Anyway, I’ll be posting this to my BL3 blog, @huskeddevotee with some additional stuff about Sadi. She’s new to my oc roster but I love her.
