some fans will do anything to act like eliot is perfect and it’s so frustrating sometimes. i like eliot too, leverage is my favorite show, but neither eliot or the show are perfect or 100% aligned with my beliefs. and it’s okay to acknowledge that! everything in canon suggests that eliot is very pro-cop. the show itself is maybe not *as* strongly pro-cop as that one character is shown to be, but they definitely portray many cops as "the good guys" and aren’t exactly saying acab. i love the show but im not going to put it/the writers/the characters on a pedestal.

It’s so profoundly frustrating that such a lot about Eliot in Redemption was either stagnant or a regression when there is so much that’s new to explore about an Eliot who’s almost a decade on from when we last saw him.

What is the longterm impact of being on the receiving end of so much sustained physical violence? What happens when you’re a hitter in your late forties and you surely cannot make your body do the things it used to? What does that do to your sense of purpose? What does it do to your sense of safety, for yourself and for the people you promised to always protect? If you spent a lot of your adult life accepting that you’d done terrible things you could never be clean of, and then against all odds and expectations you found yourself happy with people you love and who love you, what does the combination of guilt and happiness look like a decade down the line?

Eliot’s such an interesting, compelling character and it’s such a shame that when given the opportunity to explore questions like that, they instead chose to rehash that he doesn’t talk to his dad and establish that actually forget what you heard in the original series finale, he’s felt alone and like he had no one to open up to for years. It’s not like I’m opposed to some angsty exploration, I just wanted exploration that moved his character forward.

I love Leverage, but season 3 is so bad to my son Alec Hardison.

He gets hypnotised against his will by the head of his crew. And instead of apologising, Nate has the gall to try to turn it into a “teachable” moment. (You’re not ruthless enough my arse. Alec blew up the LA headquarters, and Sterling and his men were just lucky they heeded his warning.)

Eliot doesn’t tell him he knows Moreau and Alec gets thrown into the water while handcuffed to a chair and if he didn’t literally McGuyver a way to buy himself time, he would’ve died. And Eliot just... walks it off?

Leverage is so so lucky Alec sticks with them after that. You don’t con your crew. You don’t fuck over your crew like that. They’re so lucky he’s loyal to them, when he could fuck them over multiple ways with a few keytaps and they deserve it. They’re lucky he doesn’t just walk off and leave them to rot.

Look, I love the crew, but they take Alec for granted and while I loved season 4, I totally wouldn’t have been opposed to seeing the fallout of their actions with Alec. I wouldn’t be opposed to an Season 4 Leverage Premiere being: Lets go steal back our hacker by winning his trust after what we did to him. I wouldn’t be opposed to a whole season of that.

fyi im putting it out there that this is an anti-archie blog. like good on parker for finding family in the man which was ultimately acknowledged by him, but nate was right for yelling at archie. don't matter how odd you think a kid is, you don't use that as an excuse to train yourself a sidekick in your secret life of crime.
