NOTE TO SELF: The only other time I've been here, I had the best meal of 2022. This was not as good, but still more than decent. The root vegetables tossed in harissa and feta were the best thing I had, but I should have planned to share it because it's a full meal of root veggies and by the time my entree showed up, I had no interest in more potatoes. The pork was meh. The cake was a little dry and wouldn't have done much for me without adding the scoop of ice cream.

Dear Gus & Magnus,

The Video Team braved the snow and drove to northwest Arkansas today, though the roads weren't bad at all. At dinner, I couldn't shake the idea that I knew this young guy working in the kitchen. As we left, I asked our server what the kid's name was. Last name: Houston. I realized I didn't know him, but I do know his mom: Kyran Pittman. I guess I just recognized him from her photos. We took a photo to send to her and she reminded me that he and I are fourth cousins because we share a great-great-great-grandfather -- Mum's mom's mom's dad, Phillip Holeman.

Meanwhile, back on the ranch, school is still cancelled and our outgoing pipes are still frozen. Grrrrr/brrrrr.

Tomato & Onion Soup, Danny Trejo as “Machete.” Leverett Lounge. Fayetteville, Arkansas. 8.24.2022.

NOTE TO SELF: After I tasted the entree and realized the caliber of food I was dealing with, I ordered the soup as well. The soup reminded me of the tomato basil soup at Raduno, it wasn't as good as Raduno's because it needed that balsamic drizzle. That shortrib, though...OH MY. If I were ranking best single bites of food, I'm not sure I've had a better one this year than when I put a little piece of each item on my fork -- perfect complementary flavors and textures. A top ten meal of the year. Can't wait to come back to this place.
