Tal breathed a sigh of relief as Karigan seized the airship’s controls and pulled them back into a stable trajectory. Relaxing her grip on the railing, she turned her attention back to the remaining pirates. There were at least a half-dozen still scattered about the deck, including the pilot who’d sent them plummeting just moments ago. Most were regaining their balance and preparing to continue the fight.
Tal made the first move and dashed towards the captain, who was situated on the upper level of the deck. With a fair distance between them, she would have to be quick to close the gap.
Unfortunately, it appeared the captain had also regained his balance, as just before Tal reached the upper deck he leveled his pistol at her and pulled the trigger. Before she could react, the bullet slammed into her gut. Tal let out a cry and clutched her abdomen as she reeled from the impact, gasping for breath. While not a lethal wound, she wouldn’t last much longer if this continued.
