@aseikh‘s discord server (which I am a part of) decided that Gilan and Jenny’s romance was haphazardly thrown together because of heteronormativity and “every guy has to have a girlfriend.” Not to say Gilan/Jenny is a bad ship, but Flanagan... really did ‘em dirty.
INSTEAD, we made Gilan a boyfriend- because Flanagan wouldn’t.
A Comprehensive (head)Canon of Lewis Kang (referred to lovingly as “Gilan’s medic bf”)

Name: Lewis Kang
Pronouns: he/him
Age: A year or so younger than Gilan. Gilan’s age is... technically in the books, but also, I don’t pay attention to canon, because it Bad.
Description: Darker skin, freckles, shoulder-length black hair (generally tied back), medic uniform, has vitiligo.
Background:
Lewis is from the Middle Kingdoms. If you don’t remember the Middle Kingdoms, that’s because the only thing that happens in them is getting stepped on by the Temujai.
It’s effectively China, considering the fact that the Temujai are just the Mongols.
Because of the whole taken-over-by-the-Temujai (read: Mongols) deal, the Middle Kingdoms are in a state of disarray. Lewis is a medic-turned-refugee.
Gilan is on a mission near the Middle Kingdoms, and he gets injured. Lewis finds him, and because he’s got a code of honor or something (read: Gilan’s cute), he helps patch Gilan up.
They talk a little, and Gilan finds out about Lewis’ whole refugee situation. Feeling like he’s in debt to Lewis, Gilan actually, physically, SMUGGLES the man onto a ship back home. (He leaves money, it’s just that sometimes people are hostile towards foreigners and he doesn’t want to take that chance.)
At this point, (I didn’t headcanon what year of apprenticeship he was in, but assume it’s an Earlier Stage so maybe not quite third year yet) Halt and Gilan’s relationship is still a little bit tense. (We see it progress quickly with Will because Halt already knows and cares about Will. Gilan, while ALSO Halt’s son- I do not take criticism- takes a bit longer to endear himself to Halt.) Therefore, Gilan doesn’t really wanna push it with Halt, and hides the fact that he snuck Lewis into the country. He, of course, is unaware that Halt was also a refugee who busted into Araluen.
So, they make up some BS about meeting each other in town, and Lewis is put into the medical division of the Corps, (with Gilan’s testament to his skills) because medics are always in high demand.
What ensues is Gilan, sneaking out at night to see Lewis. It’s Cute™.
Halt knows in the earlier years of Gilan doing this- so maybe third and fourth year of Gilan’s apprenticeship- but Gilan gets Too Good fifth year, and Halt just thinks he’s stopped. Or that he’s just gotten Too Good.
Then comes my fic, which is gonna come out soon, I swear- this paragraph is spoilers for my fic, just a warning. Basically, Gilan gets too Gay, and he’s distracted as he leaves, leading to Halt finding out and confronting him about it. They’re Soft.
Gilan graduates, and at some point they get married. Case closed.
Tidbits:
Gilan is a lot taller than Lewis, maybe a head or so
Lewis yells at Gilan for doing Dumb Things and Getting Hurt (when he’s yelling, he does it in his native language on purpose. Gilan thinks it’s cute)
Very overprotective
Knows acupuncture
Parents wanted him to become an artist/lawyer/some scholarly pursuit, but also they’re probably dead or something so it doesn’t matter
He’s actually pretty skilled with a scalpel. It’s not like he can fight some dude with a sword or whatever, but he can take care of himself (stabby STABBY)
He loves birds
He often gets compared to Halt. Both are small and grumpy with taller affectionate boyfriends
He has OCD
He’s actually afraid of horses, but he slowly warms up to Blaze. Apart from Will, Halt and Crowley, Lewis is the only one who knows her code word
Gilan loves to call him pet names and Lewis pretends he hates it but we ALL know he Gay for it

I feel proud to announce my second child to this fandom. Most of you probably won't appreciate Juniper as much as Lewis, but to be honest with you, I came to love her so much.
So, without further ado.
Juniper is this Gilan's awesome hippie mother, who randomly travels the world.
Every once in a while, she runs into the RA cast. For example, imagine: the RA cast is on some sort of a mission overseas and then there's suddenly a lot of giggling and squealing. Halt, Will, Horace, and whoever else is with them, turn around to see Gilan hugging this lady.
Gilan introduces her as his mother. And the RA cast is like "This is your mother? Well that explains a lot."
Sometimes, the RA cast just bumps into her randomly in random parts of the world when they're on some sort of a mission. She proves to be a big help on most of their missions overseas when they meet her. But the mission always gets done in this random chaotic dumbass energy way. Because Gilan and Juniper are the most iconic chaotic duo.
Crowley is the only who knows Juniper and knows she's Gilan mother. Him and Juniper are like super besties.
How Juniper and David met? The younger Juniper was, the more she was this chaotic dork. During one knight tournament, after some combat, David goes back to his tent. And he finds Juniper there. And he's like, "What the hell, who are you?". Juniper wakes up, totally unconcerned, and stretches her sore body while yawning, saying something like: "See, I was chasing this awesome colourful butterfly and it in here. But gods knows I was tired and I just. Sorta fell asleep here." She walks out of the tent, leaving totally dumbfounded David standing there helplessly. But before she leaves, she puts this braided flower crown on his head. David wears that crown as long as the flowers are fresh. (AN-What is it with me and flowers??)
Moreover, during her travels she encounters Lewis in Middle kingdoms before he knew Gilan. They become really good friends, Juniper basically adopts him. One time, Lewis gets frustrated with some of his dumbass patients. And Juniper goes like. "Oh, you'd be like, totally my son's type." And Lewis is like totally confused.
Years later, Juniper encounters both Gilan and Lewis and before hugging her own son, she basically yeets herself at Lewis and hugs him.
Juniper is Gilewis shipper #1.
Nobody knows whether Juniper will show up for Gilewis wedding, because they have like, no way of contacting her and like I said, her travels are absolutely random. But they still reserve a seat for her. Both of them are unconsciously doing a little things to delay the ceremony. But then she shows up at the last moment like an absolute legend.
