. . . maybe it was your fault for taking and then printing (and then posting online) the most unflattering pictures of lex luthor known to metropolis. maybe it was his fault, though, for saying something snide to you seconds beforehand. “hey, you. do you even know how to use that thing? you’re holding it too low to get my good side,” he’d said. something like that, anyways; you couldn’t be bothered to remember the details. most of what you remember revolves around the fact that outwardly, you nodded politely. on the inside? you’d been plotting revenge.

now you’re here, standing in front of luthor with your camera in your hands and a visitor pass around your neck. no event, no other photographers — just you. “an exclusive photoshoot and interview for the daily planet,” lex had pitched to white over the phone, “but only if you send her.” it wasn’t something the daily planet would pass on, even if you weren’t used to interviews. all you had to help you was a quick lesson from lois and a half-assed list of questions on a paper currently tucked in your pocket.

“you don’t look too happy to see me,” he remarks, getting up from his seat at his desk. he shakes your hand, looking you in the eye. “nice shake. proper grip is important. we’ll do questions first and then photos.” luthor doesn’t give you time to argue against his plan, gesturing for you to sit. “i prefer to walk when i’m thinking. an active body supports an active mind — and you can quote me on that.”

“sure,” you reply, moving to sit down in the chair in front of the desk.

“not that one,” lex says, pointing to the seat behind the desk, “the other chair, if you don’t mind.”

okay…

there’s a second of hesitation before you walk around behind the desk, plopping down into his seat. it’s warm (gross) but it’s got incredibly comfortable cushioning. plus, it can spin. fitting, you think, for the man-child that was lex luthor. “right. my first question for you, mr. luthor…”

. . . the interview goes by quick. a bunch of bullshit questions are followed by bullshit answers; it’s nothing new or surprising, certainly nothing front page worthy. the photoshoot is where things get interesting. luthor had moved to stand in front of his desk and you had moved to stand in front of him.

“i’ve done some research on you, you know,” luthor begins, adjusting his suit, “you’ve got some beautiful shots under your sleeve. which makes that mockery of a photo you took of me all the more insulting. i’m sure you meant it to be hurtful.”

you barely look up from the camera in your hands, too busy fine-tuning some settings. “i don’t know what you’re talking about.”

he tilts his head, a restrained smile on his lips. it's a sort of warning that you’re getting on his nerves, a warning you fully miss. “but you do.”

“but i don’t,” you mutter, lifting the camera up to your face, looking through the viewfinder. you’re playing dumb in hopes of him letting it go.

unfortunately for you, lex luthor never lets anything go.

“but you do,” he insists, his voice raising slightly as he storms over to you. “look at me,” lex orders, and when you don’t react fast enough for his liking, he lowers your camera for you with one hand, demanding your attention be on him. “i know you do. you took that photo, you saw it was unflattering, and you had it printed anyways — you wanted it to be hurtful, but people like me don’t care about the actions of people like you. still, lessons must be learned, so you’re staying here until you can get some good photos.”

“i’m not staying here —” you object, brows furrowing.

“perry white, your boss, agreed for you to stay until i felt satisfied with your photos. i’m sure the daily planet doesn’t need any negative attention because one photographer got pissy.” oh, real classy, lex.

you stare at him for several moments, willing yourself not to knock the smug look off his face. the sheer arrogance he had was enough to make you want to scream. still, he wasn’t worth losing your job over. you let out a huff of air, forcing yourself to shrug casually. “fine.”

“good.” luthor walks back over to his desk, adjusting his suit some more before standing stiffly in front of it. “i’m ready to start.”

you look over at him, pausing. he looked so tense, almost as if there was an invisible gun to his head. “is that the pose you want?”

“what’s wrong with this pose?” he asks, frowning some.

you shrug gently, “nothing.”

he scoffs, stepping closer to you, “no, not nothing, not if you’re asking about it. what’s wrong with it?”

“it’s not very interesting. you’re too stiff.” you gesture with one hand for him to back up; he obliges, still frowning. the simple thing to do would be to just take the photos and move on. but lex would never let you off the hook that easily. you’d have to try and make the photos look decent if you wanted to leave this place before lunch. “try relaxing your shoulders. and, lean on the desk some more.”

normally, he’d be hesitant to follow orders. today, however, he plays nice, repositioning himself to match your vision. “like this?”

“one hand in your pocket, please. the other can hold your chin, maybe mess with your mouth. play coy, if you know how.” your words are indifferent. you look at him through the viewfinder again. “hold that. smile.” snap! snap!

“that’s a lot of work for one pose,” he murmurs, standing up and beginning to walk over to you.

“i’m not done with you, yet. go sit in your chair.”

sharp but still impersonal, lex thinks. it’s like your words are your paintbrush, your scalpel, your chisel; neutral tools that change whatever you’re working on. you’re the artist and he’s the piece you get to manipulate to your liking. luthor swallows some at the thought, then glides around the desk, settling into his cushioned throne with ease. you follow him around the side, humming softly, thinking of more poses.

“are you always this bossy in your photoshoots? you should work on that,” he suggests.

“only with people who can’t pose. now, turn the chair towards me. lean forward… okay, that’s good. now, rest one arm on your knee and hold your forehead.” you watch as he gets into position, his tie dangling forwards as he looks over at you. snap! “perfect.”

lex smirks. “i am, thank you.”

“not what i meant,” you mutter, “lean back into the seat for me.”

“for you?” he repeats, raising an eyebrow. he leans back into his seat, but that smirk remains on his lips. the phrase “devilishly handsome“ pops into your mind, only to be dismissed just as quickly as it came up.

you scoff. “you know what i mean.”

“do i?” he counters, playing dumb just like you did — though it’s a lot less believable when lex luthor, genius owner of lexcorp, plays dumb.

“you do.,” you grit out, tensing with annoyance before relaxing again. you manage to keep your cool, surprising luthor and yourself. “lean back. put one hand on your thigh and kind of hold a fist. then… hm… rest your other arm on the armrest and kind of rest your head on that hand.”

“like this?”

the pink of your tongue can be seen briefly as you stick your tongue out in thought. you come closer, kneeling down by his feet as you focus your camera. peering through your viewfinder once more, you hold your index and middle fingers together before separating them in a vaguely lewd gesture, “spread your legs.”

laughter erupts from his lips as he follows your orders. “sounds like a personal request.”

“not a chance in hell, lex,” you swear. snap! snap! snap!

more orders are given, more poses are tried, and more photos are taken. finally, you stare down at your camera’s display screen, looking through every picture you’d snapped today before deciding you’re finished. “i’m all done.”

“not until i see the results,” lex chimes from his chair, gesturing at you to come over with his index finger. you walk over, leaning on the armchair, and he scoots closer to you, looking at your camera’s screen as you show him all the photos you took. “we’ll have to retake that one at a future date," he murmurs, "this one, too. these three are good -- see? you can take good photos. i knew you were capable."

you scoff, about to turn your head away when luthor firmly grips your chin, forcing your attention back on him. “look at the photos. look at what man can capture, look at what you’re capable of. you just needed me to coax it out of you. and i will keep coaxing it out of you.” his gaze is so unhinged, it feels like his piercing blue eyes are staring through you rather than at you. briefly, something soft flickers through his gaze. then, he seems to calm, letting go of your chin entirely. it’s like a switch’s been flipped. lex hums, waving a dismissive hand.

“you’re all done here, thank you.”

i think he’d be kind of crazy abt your potential bc he is sort of obsessed with human talent as a side effect of hating mutants/aliens so much. he deff sends you the best photography equipment on the market — also, probably stalks your instagram. he accidentally likes your posts from his official lexcorp account and then just has to own it LMAO. “yes i did mean to do that,” lex says, like a liar.

I just saw your Lex headcanons and found them hilarious I thought about and I got some headcanons that I wanna share if you don't like them it's ok it's just for fun and some kind of piggyback off of your headcanons ( mostly that he a bit of a longer)

Ok so not to be rude but I feel like Lex's dating like os kind of non-existent mostly cause he so focused on technology and his project that he doesn't think about dating that much

Also, he looks like that one kid who either graduated early or never showed up to his senior's prom cause he thought it was a wast of time

And he ngl he would look super cute with braces but also got picked on for it lol

But that's it he didn't get picked on a lot in high school mostly Because he keeps to himself and no one knows him that well

And how do you think he grew up since he doesn't come from money lower class , middle class for me I say middle

We had the same idea about Lex's dating life in that it's basically non-existent! But once LexCorp is a bit more stable, I feel like he'd maybe try to have something? Maybe something less committed, more just fun.

He's 100% the dude that graduated early, no doubt. Always in advanced classes and I think he hated people always brining up the fact he has a baby face/looks young! (Side Note! Actively working on a fic where he has to go a high-school reunion and has Slade be his bodyguard for it 😋!!)

I cannot thank you enough for putting the image of our fluffy haired Lex with braces in my head. It will live rent free there!

His yearbook totally has him doing that awkward half smile where you can just barely make out some of the braces.

Agree on the he wasn't really a target for the bullies. Older Lex absolutely would've been, he's got a smart mouth but no strength. He would definitely end up in a locker. But young, high-school Lex? Nah, he keeps to himself too much. Hasn't found that bite in his yet.

I think middle class seems just about right for him. Now, Lex Luthor in some comic Canon was born to an abusive family (well, more just a father who abusive to Lex and his mother) in the Suicide Slum district of Metropolis, but I think I'm going to choose to ignore that canon for MAWS.

Instead, I think I wanna have this boy having grown up in a fine home in a maller city/town outside of Metropolis. Like solidly middle class, never had to worry about food scarcity or the utilities being turned off, but didnt go on vacation multiple times a year. Even when he was younger he had a gift for science and math, his parents well aware that he'd spend his summer breaks and weekends inside reading/playing with his science kits, and other educational toys. (He felt lied to about sea monkeys) He would talk circles around his parents about most things and they knew he was just too smart for them. (Lex killed jeopardy, even as a child)

As he got older Lex felt more and more drive to leave, sensing that he mightve just outgrown his small town.

Lex Headcanons

Just a bunch of random headcanons for Lex that I've been collecting since season 1

This boy mobile/online orders everything when he goes out to get food. Wants as little human interaction as possible.

Unironically watches Grey's Anatomy. He's caught up with the show and has OPINIONS!

He is terrible at watching movies. If he's at home, he'll be on his phone the whole time while it's on in the background.

Absolutely hates game shows. Hates these with a passion.

HE DOG EAR AND ANNOTATES HIS BOOKS.

He's a picky eater but swears he isn't.

Hypercritical of historical inaccuracies in media.

He very rarely sleeps in his bed. Falls asleep at desk, on couch, slouched over in chair doesn't matter.

Always forgets to take off glasses when he sleeps or showers.

Is absolutely a passenger princess. Never drives himself anywhere, whether it's a chauffeur, an uber, lyft, doesnt matter. He never drives himself.

Bad at whistling.

Jealous Lex Luthor Would Include

A jealous Lex is definitely not a good thing. He’s extremely possessive and could snap at anyone that threatens his claim on you as his.

If anyone so much as wishes for your help on something that would take you away from him, he gets all defensive, needing to fully investigate their motives before he’s okay with letting you go with them.

That’s not to say he has control of what you do. He does value your independence and ability to make choices for yourself, he just wants to know what he’s dealing with if things go off the rails and he needs to make someone pay for endangering you, or worse, flirting with you when he’s not around.

He handles his jealousy well in public, never wanting to cause a scene to embarrass you, or himself. But if someone makes a pass at you when you’re fairly secluded then he won’t hold back on them. He'll scare them so bad that they’ll never come within fifty feet of you again.
